The Nissan/Jatco CVT is also used in the Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass, the exact model that is used in the Altima and Rogue as a matter of fact. It's tough to find any complaints about the CVT in those vehicles, although they've got lots of other issues that our Nissan's do not!!

Hey guys,

Nissan extended their CVT Transmission warranty from 60,000 miles to 10 years/120,000 miles for all cars, all models with the CVT tranny.

Here's the link:

Makes me feel a million times better about not buying the extended warranty. Hope this eases all of your minds!

I bought my 2003 SL new in August of '03. Hit the 100K mark this Thanksgiving. Zero maintenance problems as of right now (knock on wood).

Does any know if the warranty extension is for the original owner only. We bought our "09 with 20k on it from the original owner. Everything is working great right know but if I knew the warranty extension also applied to me I would feel much better.

Yes, the warranty is in effect regardless of ownership history, UNLESS the transmission was ever tampered with by "Joe the Transmission Guy," OR if the fluid is ever contaminated (even slightly) with anything other than bonafide Nissan NS-2 CVT fluid.

I've gotten 85k out of my Murano and the transmission is still as good as it was at 0 miles.

CVTs are here to stay, and the newer generation CVTs are more more reliable. A lot of manufactures have already switched to CVTs, and many more will follow suit due to the many benefits CVTs offer. As CVT technology continues to advance, they will exceed the reliability and performance of geared transmissions. :yesnod

We have a 2003 Murano SE with just shy of 100,000 miles. Over the years, this has been very reliable overall. No CVT issues at all. No fluid change...but will do it soon. My one complaint is its a bit laggy, even for an automatic...but good MPG.

At around 55K, the transfer case broke and was replaced for $2.5k which didn't make me happy. We don't tow, no off roa, normal driving (its my wife's daily errand driver), not loaded to capacity...so that was a mystery and Nissan wasn't covering the "just past warranty" phase.

The butterfly valve in the intake got sticky (hesitant accel off the line)/a couple times which I attribute to the K&N oil gumming it up a bit.

Within the first year, we replaced the brake pads...noisy, grinding...via warranty. No issues since...pads still going strong.

The display also went out and replaced under warranty.

I did my own shocks/struts around 75k...normal use.

A couple of odd and ends interior pieces replaced...no bad for 11 years.

The timing chain gave me some worry...noisy but an engine clean fixed that.

Just recently the auto headlights stopped working so drained the battery in the garage.

Overall, 4+ stars out of 5. My wife loves it. If it was for me I wouldn't want it for my daily driver...sports car for me.

I had a CVT in a 08 Rogue totally fail at 133K. Just barely out of the extended warrant and Nissan did nothing. I'll never own another Nissan or any car with a CVT ever again.

Total CVT failure at 133,608.

When I tried to get assistance from Nissan since I was just 13k miles out of the extended warranty, I got nothing.

I'm done with Nissan and CVTs forever. I will never own another Nissan product as long as I live.

I have a 2009 Murano with 140,000 miles. No transmission troubles and it's my 2nd CVT. I really like the cvt feel with no shifting. Cruise control works much better with the cvt when driving on slightly hilly highways.
I should also note that the Cvt fluid was never changed and I drive aggressively.

I traded my 2008 Altima Coupe 3.5SE with over 167k/km, no issues whatsoever.

Too bad I can't say the same for my Father's 2008 Rogue SL (FWD), Nissan replace the CVT twice! So far so good. Nissan extended it until 10 years/200k/km.

My 2007 has 92,600K and the tranny just went up. I've read so much on how bad Nissan is treating people and not honoring the 10 yr./120K ext. warranty, even if their Murano falls within that timeframe & mileage.

So far, the Nissan dealer said Nissan Corp. has approved my warranty coverage. It's been at the dealer since 6/13 as they had to wait for the Jatco remanufactured tranny to get there. Supposed to be done tomorrow or next week.

I am crossing my fingers as I am sure it will cost me something before it's all said & done, and I will post what the outcome is. My only concern is when I get it back, how long will it last as Jatco built the 'defective' CVT's in the 1st place. Now I am calling them 'defective', and others may disagree with that.

Don't get me wrong, I am very upset about this as I love my Murano and in 9.5 yrs., I've had no major issues with it.
I really want to keep it, but am so hesitant now thinking the next tranny will go up to, so maybe it's time to let it go for a non CVT trans.

Hi good day. I'm looking for some assistance with some issues with my 06 murano. I just got the vehicle about 3 month now and starting to experience some technical difficulties with the transmission...at first it was performing sweet, I barely have to touch the gas pedal and it's off.. it has a slight ticking sound when in motion so I assumed it was bearings...I replaced them but the sound still remains. Issue two I recently went up a very steep incline in the vehicle after that it felt completely different, didn't accelerating the same and I'm hearing a sound when im at 40 km/h. Very annoying sound like diesel engine valve tap noise but much clearer and now I have little to almost no power going up hills have to creep. So I'm asking for some advice.. oh I'm at 103,000 k.

Find out if your Murano is covered by Nissan's 120k mile CVT extended warranty. In addition, take your Murano to a Nissan dealership so that the matter can be diagnosed and documented by Nissan.

The situation may require an easy fix, such as a CVT reprogram, CVT fluid change, a new valve body, et cetera, and/or a CVT replacement.

140K miles and no problems. CVT fluid has not been changed since I bought the car in 2012 which was 35000 miles ago.

I. Recently change the cat fluid and nothing has change.... the thing about it I'm living in the Caribbean so I'm not sure if the dealer here goes by the same standard of the U.S and other larger countries...I just need a guideline on how do I go about finding the the root of the problem... what actually cause the cvt to fail?? Could it be a solenoid on the valve body??

Jan '16, my wife sent me her Murano to our new house in Western NY, in a complicated Ford Focus EV lease share with her sister.

Shortly after I got it, I noticed it was indeed acting a little strange CVT-wise, and brought it in to Nissan.
Need to replace the tranny they said. At least as a vet I was going to get it done out the door for around $4K.

Then I heard about the warranty extension 120K/10Y, which we were 2-3 months shy of, along with ~115K on the odo.

Went back to Nissan, and they took a while to confirm it was legit with HQ, and got it done for free.

Was going to be a Never-Nissan, however now I'm pretty happy with them for recognizing the issue even if it took a while. Some people seemed to have gotten screwed.

The dealer I took it too is well respected, however disappointed that I had to convince them I wasn't BS'ing them about Nissan Corp's own policy. I may have heard about the extended warranty here, so thanks!

My wife's 2010 Altima 2.5 SL was purchased new , had a front wheel bearing replaced under warranty at 150000 KMS. When we purchased the car I had some concerns about the CVT . The salesman told us that it was covered for 10 yrs. or 160,000 KMS and we could purchase an extended warranty that would bump it up to unlimited KMs . $2700
January of 2017 CVT failed 258,000 km. transmission service was done regularly. Dealer told us CVT had to be replaced $6000 and that the extended warranty only covered to 160,000 km . We ended up having aamco replace the CVT with one from an auto wreckers $1500 after all was said and done it cost us $5000 . $1000 of it went to the dealer for an oil change ,a CVT service, a small repair , and diagnosis.
