CVT cooler?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

My wife recently picked up a 07 2.0S with the CVT slushbox. I'd like to add an aftermarket trans cooler for longevity, but haven't seen any transmission lines running to the radiator like a conventional a/t has.

Am I just not seeing the lines, or does this snowmobile arrangement somehow not need to be as cool as a conventional a/t? Is there is a way to add a cooler to the CVT, and if so, would Nissan freak out and invalidate the warranty?

Thanks.

That is a very good question. Unfortunately I don't know as I haven't done much research on the CVT transmission. I will ask around and see what the consensus says.

Not sure about external lines, I do know that CVT's run super high pressure and thus take special fluid (which we've tested to be good for like 180K miles at the dealership). I also do know that an additional external cooler is not necessary.

Although I have no evidence to substantiate this, I would think that if the fluid needed external cooling of any sort, Nissan wouldn't cheap out on it. This is a pretty new thing (at least for mass production) and I would think Nissan researched the crap out of it to make sure it lasts like it should.

It's designed to operate at 200+ degrees C. I do think they'll void your warranty if anything goes wrong with the CVT after you mod it.

Just leave it I hear from the service people at my dealer they have done all of 2 CVT fluid change since it went on market. That's pretty good. I think the CVT will wear well. The fluid is quite different from the traditional auto fluids cooling it more might actually hurt it's performance. As according to nissan the fluid is responsible for making the push belt work.

Says the Murano has 3 coolers so I think we have at least 1. So don't worry about it.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll quit worrying about it unless Nissan puts another cooler on the CVT within the next couple years or if folks start having problems.

Next I'll start paying attention to what's learned about the intake. It takes quite the trip to get from the throttle body to the grill. It might not be a restriction, but it sure looks like one.
