CV Boot removal.

I've got an '82 4x4 and I've noticed that the drivers side CV boot has got a small hole in it and grease is leaking out. How the heck do i get the boot off? I had a look in my haynes manual and from what I can see it looks like a press is going to be required...?

Am I missing something? why does it have to be so difficult. How about a 2 part boot. would that be a mistake?

Honestly I would skip the boot and just replace the half-shaft. If the outer boot is gone the inner is not far behind.
