So I've been thinking my car is a bit too quiet so I'm thinking of cutting off the resonator. I have Magnaflow 14851 mufflers. So vote yes or no, advantages, disadvantages.Thanks.

Where are the sig police, maybe they can handle this one. Seems like the coupe section is getting all clogged up again.

I say cut it off, what the heck. Wait for headers and totally eliminate the cat. That should produce the sound you are looking for.

Ya I don't have cats anymore. Its the headers straight into the custom Y pipe, into the turbo, and out to the borla. Its deep, but raspy as hell around 3700 rpms.

weren't you the one that was saying there is no 02 sensor block offs or what ever for the 05+ Altimas and that you'll get a check engine light and when you get a check engine light the car will sense that something is wrong and pull timing which would result in the car not running to its full potential???? maybe it was tammer, but i thought it was you lol well, did you guys find a way to trick the car into thinking the cats are still hooked up (no check engine light)?

oh and sorry about the thread jacking lol if you have a 3.5se, they don't have resonators..... well, the coupes don't, not sure about the sedans. i have a 2.5" cat-back exhaust with a magnaflow muffler. thinking about taking off my 3rd cat again to make it louder like it was before. only down side is hwy driving where it sounds like a loud *** bee in the car lol

I don't think it was me. The O2 sensors are in the header. I dunno if there are O2 senors after the first 2 cats, considering they are just start up cats. They only function during the first 3 seconds of start up to capture the eruption of emissions in the very beginning. The 3rd cat captures the actual smog

oh ok lol but ya theres sensors hooked up to the pre-cats, thats why the guy at the muffler shop just cut off the 3rd one.

ya Jose, you should just cut off the resonator. if you have your cats on it should be about as loud as mine right now after you cut off the resonator.... it's not too loud (sometimes i feel its not loud enough lol). you should do it

What's up homie, I would definately recommend cutting out the resonator. I have the Stillen exhaust I love the way it looks but it just wasn't loud enough for me. So I went to a highly recommend stainless steal mandrel bending company and got them to measure and fit me a 2.5 inch pipe the length of the Stillen resonator (about 2 feet) and replaced the resonator with the pipe. Now the Stillen exhaust sounds like a beast no doubt, it doesn't fade out after 4000 rpm's and it's significantly louder but not at all annoying. It has a lil rasp to it but it's the perfect sound and not ricey at all. So I would definately recommend it no doubt.Hopes this helps homie

if the resonators are eliminated will there be a problem with emissions in the future?

I don't know.

I got rid of the resonator and what a difference it makes. Sounds like a different car. Videos coming later.

Resonators are not for emissions reductions. Generally speaking, mufflers are not either unless they are specifically designed to trap or restrict exhaust gas. The only emissions reductions part of your exhaust is the cat. The EPA and air board however do not make these distinctions between parts of the exhaust.
