Hi,

I know I'm new on the forum and not l33t enuf to give advice but I wanted to share my cold air extension setup for my AEM ShortRAM.

First of, this summer was hot in Cali and my car would drive like s***. I set myself on the task of getting custom air extension but not become too ghetto like some people on this board who used HomeDepo as their shopping ground.

My filter adapter on MAF is 2.75" and even though that shortRAM itself is 2.5" I decided to go with 2.75" extension.

Wondering on eBay I came across a guy who was selling extension tubes of three different colors for $10 "Buy it now" price and only $1 starting bid and no resrve. Well guess what - $1 won it. I got it for $7 shipped. Next thing I got was a pair of clamps and silicone coupler with 2.75' inside diamter.

To accomplish this install you need to remove resonator box (look for thread about that). Than you need to widen the opnening so your huge 2.75 pipe will fit in (maybe 1" bent in my case).

Slap on the filter on one side, pull the other end of the pipe through the opening and secure with clamp to the coupler.

Done. 15 mins time.

results: slight imrovement over the whole rev range and the sound at 5-6krpm that makes me wanna keep this rev range every minute of driving.

I think on the budget of $20 it is not as ghetto as hair dryer piping, still not as much of a rape as Injen extension for $110

And BTW, per Aries's reply to another post Injen extension works on AEM so I take this mod will work on both Injen and AEM shortRAMs.

Enjoy.

Asleep,

Now that you've mentined that, please link me to a good post about cleaning the engine bay. I'm excited to do it. I will still leave the outside dirty and in desperate need of paint job - less attraction.

here ill give you some good tips. 1) wrap a small plastic bag over your distributor and cap. 2) cover your air filter3) (optional) cover your alternator4) cover any polished aluminum or chrome pieces you dont want to ruin with the cleaner im about to recommend to you.5) get some castrol super clean in the purple bottle. get it by the gallon, its cheaper that way.6) on a warm but not hot engine, spray liberally (and dont get it in your eyes or mouth, you will hate life)over everything that is nasty, except paint and those pieces i told you to cover, this s*** rocks and will remove the shine and even paint.7) let sit for a little bit, about 2 minutes or so.8) with gentle pressure, doesnt need to be a pressure washer, rinse all of the cleaner off. 9) engine your newly cleaned engine. This Castrol stuff will clean EVERYTHING with grease on it. trans, axles, suspension, you name it. my undercarriage is spotless thanks to this stuff. have fun!

AA,

Thank you for your advice.

Just a follow-up on this post. That's where I got the pipe itself.

I bet it would work on anything with proper measurments preceeding install. I bet it would even make a great FMIC piping.

I want to know this...I had bought a 3" Cone Filter and adapter from eBay months ago. Originally it was for a 87-88 Nissan Maxima. But since I haven't used it, would it fit the 240SX?
