Curiosity about what the costs would come out to...

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Currently I'm running with a stock Nissan Sentra XE with the twincam GA16DE, it's got over 200k miles on it now. I'm looking at powering it up and making it into a decent machine, however, I want to know about how much roughly in parts it's gonna cost and what good ideas would be in terms of prepping the engine to get it ready for a turbo and other upgrades (I'm going to be doing most if not all the work myself). Lemme know if you want more info on any other variables that might affect it.

Here's an article on how to do a turbo GA:

Might be better off just doing a complete swap... I bought a low-mileage JDM FWD SR20DE for $600....

Boost on a 200K mile motor? Nope.

thanks, as for engine swaps, I'm looking at that too, but I don't have a second car to use while I swap it's engine, and I don't have local access to an engine lift so I couldn't do that on my own, I've got a few friends who might be able to help me in that case though. I've had people recommend actually replacing several parts in anycase, the engine even for a 200k mile dose have a good acceleration and speed.

The car will likely be down just as long if it's in pieces getting turbo'd. I know that much from experience.

I have to suggest swap too. If you think the GA has "good acceleration and speed" then you'd be quite impressed by even a USDM SR20DE (though obviously a DET is the better way to go). For the cost of turboing the GA you can get a lower mileage SR20DET with more power on stock boost.

Sounds like you're not really in a position to be doing major mods just yet.

Not trying to be rude, but if you only have one car, and no hoist / garage / tools, you could be in for some misery.

I dropped my intake manifold and cracked it during my install, putting me back a week. If you can't absorb that kind of delay, hold off and wait on the swap.

How about selling and buying a SR20DE equipped car. Sentra SE-R, 200sx SE-R or p10 G20T's.

True enough, I've got a friend local with what I need, and I'll probably convince him to let me do the modding there. He's got a big enough area to work with. And this is a long term project, I don't expect to do it immediately I want to make sure I have all the parts and planning done first before I actually set onto powering it up. That way I save money and get it done with a bit less hassle.

You can sit and plan it all you want to, but it's not til you start turning wrenches that you find "oh, this doesn't quite fit like I thought" and all sorts of other surprises.

However, that article should make that whole process a lot less of an issue, since they probably describe 90% of the aforementioned moments.
