So, now I'm running into a new problem. Cruise Control died on me.

It was working this morning when i left for work. However, on the way home tonight, it will not engage. The 1st cruise light on the dash comes on, but when I hit SET, nothing happens. I've checked the fuse under the dash, and the relay under the hood. Both are working. I've checked for the brake pedal switches, both are in good shape and getting contact from the pedal. When i hit the pod switch to turn it on, Ii can hear the module activate in the passenger side floor.

I'm not sure what else to check here. Nothing was changed on the car while i was at work.

Just an update. I checked the switches under the brake pedal and adjusted both of them a little. It seems as though that has corrected the issue for now.

Ya beat me to it! Glad it's working again.

When I checked those switches the first time, all I looked at was that they were making contact with the pads. When I looked at them again, I screwed them in one turn so that the button sat just a tad further out towards the pedal. That seems to be what corrected the issue.

Well, I spoke too soon. It worked to and from work this morning. Stopped working again when I came back into town later today.

Anyone have any recommendations on the best place to get a replacement switch?

Hmm, for pedal switches, I'd go dealership or pick-n-pull and get it over with. You could go for new parts online, but run the risk of a mismatch. Rock Auto is cool and I think they'll use your VIN to confirm a match, but I don't recall. Maybe car parts stores like O'Reilly's and Autozone have those. You can bypass the switches, but would loose some function (like auto off of cruise when braking) so I don't really recommend that. Maybe have a working switch on the brake pedal and not the clutch. You'll get a rev reminder when putting in the clutch while in cruise if you don't manually cancel. That's better than forgetting when hitting the brakes. When you install them, check your pedal movement and use the measurements in the FSM. Yes, actually measure. That will ensure that your don't squish your new switches and brake them with your pedals.

I looked up the part on a nissan dealer site, nissanusa. And i matched that part number with the one from Rockauto. Looks like its a match. Same switch for a bunch of years of nissans. I ordered it, as I've had pretty good luck ordering from them when I order the right part to begin with. So, we'll see how that works out. At least its an easy fix if that's all it needs.

Also, just FYI, my Z is an auto. So I've only got the brake pedal switch.

Oh, okay. Well, you probably won't have to mess with pedal adjustment so much. Just screw in the switch far enough that it gets depressed when breaking, but doesn't bottom out, like, you'd be able to push it in just a hair further if you put something between it and your pedal...

I'll remember that. I went and purchased a new switch, and it arrived over the weekend. Ironically, since I've gotten the new one in the mail, the one already in the car has started working again. Ha. Ha ha.

However, I still plan on replacing it, as I have a small handful of things to do on the car now.

Maybe the switch has sticky internals, so the new one will work more reliably.

That's actually what it felt like when i crawled under to check it out. Felt like it didn't want to retract. The new one looks like it should fix me up.
