Ive got a couple questions about my 86 300zx. ive had a 240 for bout 5 years and a couple months ago i got an 86 z and been havin radiator trouble and was wondering (since the junkyards and stuff around this area are lame) what all radiators will work in my car? i can only find some 70's models datsun Z and was wondering if they would fit in my car? if not what others will fit in it as well? Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. Also (please dont flame) what are the differences in the z31 z32 and fairlady. just tryin to figure out what mine is. its an 86 300zx 2+2 non turbo. what makes them a fairlady? any help would be greatly appreciated!

welcome, you car si a Z31, 84-89 = Z31, 90-96 = Z32

all 2+2's int he states are n/a, or at least they were turbo conversions are fairly common ont he Z31

a fairlady si just a name, when the first Z cars were shipped to america they were badged fairlady, after the musical my fair lady, mrK rebadged then as 240Z's and a star was born, back in japan they continued to be called fairlady's and still are, while we got updated names to represent changes in diplacement of significant chassis redisign (240z,260z, 280z, 280zx, 300zx, 350z, 370z)

as for your radiator to my knowledge the z31 is the only car to use that radiator, I can tell you it is not even similar to any other model of z car, they aren't terribly expensive new, a little over $100 IIRC, that is of course fomr a radiator shop or parts shop, the dealer I'm sure charges a lto more

Food for thought, the R33 radiators are similar in design. Doesn't help you out any being in the states, but whatever.

Anyway, what kind of radiator trouble?

wow great responses thanks guys! that cleared up a lot! as far as the radiator i had a leak in the top crimped seam by the top hose. had a buddy sauter it down to just a pinhole leak. tried some stop leak which worked for about a week or so but it just keeps leakin. put fluid in daily to keep it from overheatin bout a half gallon or so. but im gettin fed up with that. thanks for the z info tho made things a little clearer being new to the z community.

DO NOT USE STOP LEAK! taht might be contributing to your overheating, it settles int he engine block and in the radiator and the heater core and restricts flow and cooling capacity
