Hi, I have a 97 Nissan hardbody with the KA24E motor. I was wondering if anyone know how much cfm the stock cooling fan pull? Thanks in advance.

I converted to elecrtric fan for my truck to gain some extra hp. The Electric fan is rated at 2800 cfm. Now I'm running slightly hot and if I get stuck in heavy traffic it wil get to 3/4 on the temp gauge. It has never reach the danger zone. So i would like to find out the different in cfm between the electric fan and the clutch fan.

P.S. I live in AZ so it get over 110 F for the majoity of the day.

My suggestion, put it back on. Seriously. You didn't gain THAT much more power by removing it. And, in the AZ heat, its not worth the risk, IMHO.

First of all welcome to the NICO Trucks Forum!

Having had a 86-720 with that engine setup I fully understand your dilema. I too considered what you did because with that clutch fan there was always some drag to the nominal amount HP the 2.4L could make.

To answer your question: A clutch fan typically draws 20-30% more CFM than your current electric fan is capable of because of the different pitch/angle of the fan blades.

If you seriously want the electric fan you will most likely have to pair up a set of fans side by side. If you can't install the electric fans side by side, then you should offset them on opposite sides of the radiator. This will push-pull more air through the cooling fins and will cool your engine more effectively. If you wire the fans in this push-pull configuration then they will run for much shorter periods but will be very efficient at maintaining optimum engine temperatures especially when the summer heat hits the 100+ range

The only draw back you may encounter is the amps the electric fans will draw. You will need to find out if your charging system and battery will be able to handle it.

Another thing you can try is a bigger radiator. I'm not 100% sure but it stands to reason that a V6 Hardbody or Pathfinder rad should be bigger. This will carry more coolant of course and will in turn allow you cool your engine more effectively.

I would try the dual fan setup thing first before salvaging a rad and shoe-horning it in place but at least you have some options to pursue now.

Hentacles:

I would really appreciate some photos of your current setup.

And maybe some images of what you eventually end up doing. This forum is only going be as good as the content it's members provide. I will do my best to keep things organized and make sure that topics of interest stay active.

BB.

Right now I got it working to the point that it will run cool as long as I'm not gunning it during stop n go rush hour. The fan set up right now is kinda ghetto but it's the best way right now. The different is noticable because I was able to keep up with my buddy's 02 Taco Prerunner V6 till about 60-70mph. Right now I have the original fan on, when I put the e-fan back on I will then post some pictures.

i wish i had read what big bird just said before i installed a single 15" e-fan on my 93 240. i have that same problem with the temp rising (but not to the danger zone) funny thing is that it only happens when i'm cruising though. now that i think about it, it must be my t-stat

My fan is a 16" from Zirgo, it pull 2800cfm. I had a few problem ofit running hot too while crusing, I remount it a different way to fix that problem, so you can try to mount it closer or farther away from the radiator and see if it do anything.

Here is a picture of my current e-fan set up, it's not permanent yet, still messing around with the fan location. And yes, that is zip ties that are holding the fan to the shroud, so far that is the only thing that can hold the fan securely until I can find something better, lol.

that is a pretty good choice for a fan. You are losing a lot of cooling efficiency though when you are sitting still because the fan is sucking some air from the engine bay in betweeen the shroud and the e fan. If the fan would some how fit turned arround the other way, and you closed off the gap between the shroud and the fan with some weatherstriping or foam, it would make it better. You may want to consider ditching the stock shroud all together and just mount the fan right up against the radiator.
