I have an '08 altima coupe 2.5 and have noticed that the coolant is slowly building up or leaking by the cap of the coolant overflow tank (see below for picture).

My car has never had any overheating issue, in fact the temp gauge has never gone up passed middle and the radiator fan works. I also checked and made sure that the overflow tank is not filled passed the "full" line. I also noticed that the overflow tank has an "overflow tube" where excess coolant can leak out in case of excess fluid, but that area is dry! That means my coolant level never goes up, and it sounds like a bad mixture of coolant that's evaporating into the cap?? Anyway, any input/advise/comment to help me figure out what's going on is much appreciated.

Thanks!Rick

Welcome to the forums Rick. I don't think anyone here has had any cooling problems. i know my reservoir is clean around the cap, unlike yours. Have you taken it to the dealership to see what is going on? I'd take it back and see what they say.

BTW,..I like your screen name..Crouchingpinoy Adobo and Pancit FTW

Thanks for the warm welcome and yes, I'm planning on taking it to the dealership. I thought I'd ask my fellow altima owners first to see if they have the same problem.

Anybody else have coolant built up around the reservoir cap? As I mentioned earlier, it could be a bad mixture of coolant (maybe more water than it's suppose to causing the evaporation ).

I aswell don't know of anyone who has had problems with their AC overheating. I would take it to the dealer to see what they have to say about it. Welcome to the NICO Family dude.

Wait, this happens to me too. Is this not normal for a little bit of dried up coolant to be on the cap?

Nothing to worry about. You do not need to take it to the dealer.

Clean it and forget about it. It may or may not return. If it does, clean it again.

This is not going to harm anything.

I use this spray on battery corrosion inhibitor. No more PITA corrosion that pisses me off

Not to thread jack but this is what I used for the battery corrosion. It sprays on clear so it's not crappy looking. I bought my from a local automotive shop but I'm sure any NAPA carries it as well.
