Hopefully that knock sensor is ok. I keep forgetting about the BMW one. When will you have your inspection done? All that work for 20 minutes, then all over again.I'm glad I don't have to mess with that crap. Good luck brah!

nah, that knock sensor's ok the stock ecu's not throwing any codes. Check out rockauto or some of the other links in the above posts if you need a new/used knock sensor. Some of the beamer knock sensor were just as much if not more than the nissan one..and i'm not even sure if it will plug in w/ no problems

i'll probably get my car smogged in the next wk. depending on how fast i get that weatherpack on so i'll post before and after i get back from the smog check..

Been driving it around n/a and it is slow as hell! Now I know even when not boosting, the turbo's still packin' air into the engine making it faster than wot normally-aspirated. I'll get her smogged tomorrow and get my boost on again..can't stand this crap lol

any input guys? I know this isn't very exciting like a "400rwhp ka build" but there's some things worth reading/commenting imo (like the knock sensor code on the jwt ecu and not the stock ecu?) Plus i'm probably the first idiot to have to pull the turbo off a ka-t to get a legit smog-check in CA lol..

That my friend, is integrity.....to a certain degree.. lol Just knowing that you got a valid sticker should make you feel better. I know a lot of guys here that fudge everything are always weary about driving around and getting pulled over. I just kept my residency and registrations in Florida.

yeah, i guess you could say that. This was the original plan when i went ka-t: to put everything back to stock, something I dreaded this whole time simply because of the pain in the neck..so I just wanted to make a thread showing how complicated it really is to get valid tags on a ka-t in the most strict smog state..i'll get more pics of my plugged oil drain and capped ic pipes

Hey spooled, you get that thing inspected yet? I would have thought you would be posting how you were glad to be boosted again. Good luck with it.

ok some pics before the smog check, everything looks in order and ready to go! It's pretty obvious there was a turbo on this engine, with the oil feed line, ic pipe, oil drain plug etc ic pipe:oil drain plugged up:oil drain plugged with the brass colored plug:the complete turbo to n/a spec with the convenience of plugs and what not popped the hubcaps back on to make it more low-profile and "smog friendly" (i'm actually getting sick of the steelies look anyway)like I said earlier, my car passed with no problem so that's a done deal thank god.

So I started the conversion to ka-t once again and I was on a roll until I broke one of the head studs for the exhaust manifold. It was unusually difficult to remove that nut and all of a sudden it gave away with the stud breaking off and being flush with the head . So i'm pretty much screwed on that deal, we'll see what happens next..

Sucks to break a stud. Take a center punch and make sure you center it as best you can, and then drill it and use an easy out( screw extractor) and just make sure you keep it lined up while you try to get it out. If that doesn't work, you can just keep drilling bigger and bigger until the stud is even with the threads, then usually you can take a pick or some other small sharp object and get it out.Good luck.

yeah you must've read my mind that's what we did, my dad saved my azz. He's a mechanic so we took that nightmare out. We punched it on dead center with a punch then used left-hand drill bits and drilled a hole all the way through. We sprayed the hell out of it with wd-40 even inside the hole so it finally broke loose. man i'm so relieved, you don't know...

I was praying for you Homey! I'm glad you got it. When it happens to me, I get a little extra religion. lol I'm still waiting on the insurance check from my truck. As soon as it is in my grubby little mitts, then I'm going to get a turbo. The one on ebay you found has gotten to $112, so it may go out of my reach. We'll see. It ends Thursday evening.

thanks zippy ur one of the many supporting nico guys on here hopefully you can jump on a nice cheap t25 and get ur car on the roll again..

happy new year!!!

From your keyboard to God's ears. Wait, he would only hear clack, clack, clack. Maybe his eyes, yeah, thats it his eyes.lol Nobody has one local? I would have thought you could get one from a local parts house. After the stud, how much left do you have to go?I appreciate your support too, I should have a turbo this weekend and be rollin' soon.

Thats what i was thinking. I had the same exact stud break off too. I think there is a water vein right by that stud. I didnt have any luck backing mine out. It was in there good. I ended up having to drill it out and retap the hole. I got extra studs from H&E.

ahh i see..yeah i was backing the nut out and the stud didn't budge! it just broke on me so that stud was in there good..we drilled all the way through and no coolant dribbled out but we sprayed the hell out of it even in the hole with wd-40 intermittenly. That's what saved my azz..the permacoil was my last resort..how's it working for you coolbone?

i'm waiting on the replacement stud and nut from nissan, waiting on the weatherpack for my mafs wiring, and buy new studs for the turbo mani (cuz the chinese ones are sh1t) and just install the turbo/dp. Depending on how fast some of my parts come in, i'll probably have it driving early next week!

Dude i pulled my exhaust manifold off the other day and that exact same stud was broken. I kinda think mine was already broken because there was some amount of corrosion on the inner end of the stud already.

What really sucks though is it broke past the shank.... so it's about 1/4" into the head. Hopefully i can get it out with the EZ-out and a ton of PB blaster.

For replacement parts check this out.http://www.ka-t.org/forums/vie...+studToyota studs fit and are REALLY cheap!

hey thanks for the link, one exhaust stud and one nut from Nissan was $7.65 out the door.

Just a little advice, keep spraying the broken stud with wd-40 every few minutes this will soak the rusted/corroded threads with much need lubrication. Also when drilling with the reverse drills, drill all the way through past the stud (no coolant jacket behind there) and then spray wd-40 in the hole to get the threads from behind. After all this we used the easy out and it made one "snapping" sound and it started backing out..probably the most beautiful sound..

Congrats on getting by the smog laws and getting back to boosting.I'm going have to do the same thing you did when i have to register my car. At least it beats swapping an engine.

thanks, that's pretty much half the reason i went ka-t, you don't have to worry about changing wiring harnesses and swapping out a whole engine and trans..sounds like a pita imo.

Hardest part I thought was changing exhaust systems-i changed them out in one piece so it gets kind of frustrating cuz they are heavy and you are on your back on a creeper lol

But with the allen screw for the injectors (philips screw suck when they are tight as hell) and the 3 port weather pack off ebay ($7.75 shipped for 2 sets-1 for stock mafs & 1 for z32 mafs) will make thing a whole lot easier

and just plug the oil feed with some fittings from lowes and just change some vac lines and you are good to go!

exhaust leaks are nonexistent so far, my max boost reads 10psi now! Better change my sig lol...
