Sachs SG359005 is available from rockauto.com for $12.55 each. There is also usually a 5% off coupon floating around for rockauto, which would make them about $12 each.

I just installed mine, and they work fine, especially at the price. However, the autopartsbylou lifts probably work better - the Sachs SG359005 set has 80 lbs of force total, and it's a little bit weak. The autopartsbylou lifter set has 90 lbs of force, and I bet that's what OEM was.

For those of you who have not bought from rockauto before, they are one of the best auto parts companies out there. Great prices, fast and inexpensive shipping, awesome customer service. I usually look there first when I'm buying new or reman parts.

By the way, the original part (on my car at least) was a Suspa A-66XQ-3185-BXXX.

I did some looking and the autopartsbylou ones that are listed as convertible compatible have the following info:

Strong Arm Lift Lid Support Shock Damper Strut 14" 45LB

New Strong Arm #4464 gas-charged universal lift support. This universal model is intended for replacement use on pickup camper caps, tool boxes and custom applications. You are just getting the support shown; there is not any mounting hardware (since these are intended for replacement). It has the following properties:

* Extended Length (center to center): 14.5" * Compressed Length (center to center): 9.5" * Lifting force: 45 Lbs. * Connection Type on Body: Ball Socket (Plastic) * Connection Type on Movable Shaft: Ball Socket (Plastic)

Strong Arm Lift Support features include:

* Patented Temperature Compensation Module (TCM) - valve ensures consistent operation even in extreme weather conditions by compensating for normal gas pressure changes caused by temperature variations. TCM valve remains closed at temperatures above 40°F and prevents expansion of a portion of the compressed gas within the spring. When the temperature drops below 20°F, the TCM valve opens to allow expansion of gas within the tube. This valve makes it possible for the extended force to increase at the TCM valve opening temperature. * Self-Cleaning Piston Assembly - automatically opens during each compression cycle to keep orifice clear of fluid contaminants and to provide smoother operation and more reliable performance. * Rubber O-Ring Piston Seal - the most effective type of hydraulic seal. Helps prevent fluid leakage around the piston, forcing fluid to pass efficiently through piston valving components, providing controlled lift and consistent performance. * Teflon Back-Up Ring - enhances performance through improved oil and gas pressure sealing. * Metallic Upper Bushing - manufactured with bearing quality precision to provide exact fit with piston rod and to promote longer operating life. * Hardened Chromium Plated Steel Shaft - precision ground and polished for superior corrosion resistance and leak-free sealing. * Heavy Gauge Steel Body - electrostatically painted and heat cured to original equipment specification.

*info stolen form this ebay auctionhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWD1V

I ebay'ed them and found a set for 24$ + 7$ shipping 31$ total which looks to be about 10$ cheaper then autopartsbylou and are the same thing.

I got this set but i'm betting they'll post another up soon as they look to be a company that would have a few.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...d=1,1

I just ordered my trunk supports finially...not sure why I made myself suffer this long with that guillotine trunk lid...but I just ordered them from http://www.rockauto.com/ and they have bunches in stock they said. They are still $12.55 each...and ground shipping was $9.99. So total was $35.09. They should be here by Thursday. Oh yeah it was the part number that was first posted: Sachs SG359005

Hey, did a search at rockauto.com and came up empty, using that part number. Do your lifts work as advertised? If you have a receipt or anything that you can scan or maybe get a little more specific, that would help a bunch, need to get some trunk lifts bad! Thanks!

You can go to local Pep Boys store. If they don't have it, they can order it for you. I got mine from there and it was very cheap.Looks like there are 2 locations in Tulsa, OK.

I remember getting mine for both by Maxima's hood and my 240's trunk for about 25 each from NAPA. When I was installing one on my 240 to see if it'd work the guy didn't know how to do it properly, so it he kinda just ripped my old one out.

Then I just took his screwdriver and did it the right way hehe

Oh, and ^-Airhunt, just use "SG359005" no Sachs, in the part # search box and you should get a hit.

Sorry, should have mentioned that in my original post. Thanks Loki.

Be sure to Google for a 5% off coupon before you buy stuff from rockauto. There's almost always one active.

For some reason seems like when everyone gets there vert the trunk lid struts are no good. Go to Pep Boys or some online store like http://www.rockauto.com/ and order you some new ones. Rockauto had them for just over $12 bucks each. Good luck!

Just got a vert for the wife (I'll post pics and the ordeal in another thread soon) and this is the FIRST thing I ordered, since I'll be in the trunk quite a bit cleaning up some water damage (yay for some idiot shutting a screwdriver in the trunk and bending the lip under the water seal) and finding the leak in the hydraulic system, and got tired of either having to prop it up, or wondering when I was gonna become a meal for the trunk.

Ordered them thursday from Rockauto.com with the 55 code and got them today ! (saturday)

install was a breeze, and no more trunk prop.

Rock Auto does indeed rock. Got my Moog Tie Rod ends from them, very cheap compared to other places and very fast.

Uh, WOW! I got my trunk struts this morning. I didn't ask for overnight, but that's how they came. I did find out that Rock Auto has a distribution center right here in Indy. That's awesome!

I purchased the struts from rockauto, and they simply snapped in. Also found the coupon and both came to 24 bucks.

The only thing that I notice is that they are not much stronger than the ones I replaced. A bit stronger, but not a dramatic difference, and that the truck will still not pop open from the in car latch.

Has anyone experienced this, and been able to correct it by rebuilding or replaceing the latch mechanism? Or is it simply a function of the struts.

ThxM

Are they supposed to pop open from just the latch? Mine were completely shot, so these are a HUGE improvement.

Edited because 94_240sx made me realize I might have read the post wrong:

The Sachs struts do not have enough pressure to make the trunk fully open just from pulling the trunk lever. They do stay up when the trunk is lifted, though. If you want the trunk to pop open and go up on its own, you'll need to get stronger struts and grease everything up really well.

If your trunk isn't opening at all from the trunk lever (you need to use the key instead), do what 94 says below VVV

I know how to fix this. Remove plastic trunk trim, unbolt 2 bolts that hold the latch and push the latch down a couple of millimeters. It'll take care of that. If you push down too much, your trunk won't line up with rear fenders or you need to slam the trunk to close it..

When I replaced my struts based on this thread the new ones were so strong I could launch gerbals off the trunk by pulling the lever inside the car. I got mine from Advance Auto however.

I got them couple of years ago though. Sorry. It was $14.99 each, not $9.99.

I will try the relocation of the latch and let everyone know. I am knee deep in vert replacement land, and needed to buy, make, cut, and singe the nylon pads from scratch. Things going a bit slower, but a supplement to the vert replacement will come out of it.

I wanted to lauch gerbels off the truck too!I tried greasing up the hinges real well, but that didn't help. There is just no force at the truck closed position.Just enough to unlock, and not have to use the key.

I'm pretty positive that they jacked up the price. The length is 15 1/4 inches from tip to tip. I've found that Autozone sells Mighty Lift brand struts cheaper than Pep Boys. Sorry, I don't have the part number, but try Autozone and see they have 15 1/4 inch strut. I bought a pair of 18 inch struts recently and it was $13.99 each.

Cross referenced the sachs number through the advance auto computer to part # 4464 made by strong arm. I'll have them tomorrow to test.

I had found some others back on the shelves that popped on and worked but still wouldnt lift the trunk enough when i used the lever inside. When I got the car 6 years ago the trunk didnt raise on its own but it popped up and I just had to raise it the rest of the way.

Thanks for the part number. I think Strong Arm/Mighty Lift parts are cheaper, but all same stuff.

Vert trunk will never raise on its own. It might if you remove the spoiler.
