What is the best setup to use on the l28et? asfar as ignition goes?Im also in the progress of doing a Z31 Turbo ecu swap on the L28etbut my question is do I need to stay with the same coil and control module or can I upgrade to the Z31 set up as well or buy something like MSD?Someone school me about this issue?

Thanks

the Z31 ecu controls spark as well as fuel (as does the L28ET setup) you can run the stock L28ET coil, stock Z31 coil, aftermarket coil or whatever, so long as it's a 12 volt coil it's all interchangable

and yes you can fire the ignition through an MSD box but it's more trouble than it's worth

My question is mainly about the transistor or whatever it goes by (ignition control module).

on the 280zx the transistor has 2 wires going in and 2 coming out. the b/w and y/w go in and come out as b/w and blue then go to coil.

on the 300zxt ecu swap guide it gives you 2 new wires that go to coil terminals. do the original wires stay as is? and add new ones as well?

If i add 300zx coil and transistor how do I wire it since this transistor only has 3 wire? (correct me if im wrong) black-ground, blue-signal goes to- and black/white-12v which goes to + on coil? transistor is wired parallel?

what chassis are you swapping into? for the l28et it depends on the chassis wiring for power, and tach hookups, as well as a go between for the trigger signal, the Z31 ignitor works roughtly the ame, and has been used as a replacment onL28ET's due to the expense and rarity of the S130's L28ET ignitor which is part of the coil bracket

it's been a while since I ran stock ignition on either engine so my memory might not be right but as I recall the z31 engine harness plugsinto the ignitor but power and tach signal are part of the chassis harness

I have a 1970 240z (S30) Thats what i would really want do hook up the z31 coil and ignitor because they are inexpense and easier to find. Ive already had problems with my l28et ignitor & its expensive and hard to find.

Evildky if you can please help wire this up it would be really helpfull to get my car running. Thanks

Oh does any have or know where i can find the z31t wiring diagram? this would help a lot, My email is [email protected]

thanks

wel, in the 240Z chasis here si a black wire with a white stripe near the coil (actually there are 2, you'll need to test to see which one is 12v+ switched while cranking) this goes to the positive side of whatever coil you run, the ignitor IIRC hooks to each side of the coil then has a trigger wire (you'll have to look at a Z31 schematic to figure out which is which is which) that you'll need to run into one of the l28et harness leads located inside the firewall on the drivers side (assuming you left the l28et harness in it's stock configuration) and your tach wire will run tot he negetive side of the coil, any of this help?

this is what I have according to the z31 diagram. Positive side of coil has a blue wire that goes to pin 3 on Z31 ecu negative side of coil has green/white goes to pin 34. Then the ignitor has a black/white goes to positive side coil and a black wire goes to ground and blue wire which turns into green/black that goes to pin 5. Thats what i got. is that correct?

I don't think thats right but I'm not looking at the daigram so you might be right, for the L28 ignitor you use the chassis hot to the positive side of the coil, then the trigger out and power lead form the ignitor hook to the coil, and the trigger input wire form the ignitor goes to the ecu and the ignitor grounds through it's mounting surface, I'm pretty sure the Z31 ignitor wires int he same way, just a matter of figuring out which is which

and then I found this on hybridz:How to install a z31 ignitor:blue wire - goes to y/w wire from zxt ecu pin #5black/white wire - goes to negative side of zxt coilblack - goes to ground

does the ignitor give the signal trew the negative side?

so according to what you foundblue wire - goes to y/w wire from zxt ecu pin #5black/white wire - goes to negative side of zxt coilblack - goes to ground

and all you need is a 12v(swicth) for positive side of coil?
