Does anyone know if there is an app and cable or how to get an inexpensive first gen (pre OBD II) Nissan/Infiniti scanning tool for my 91 Q?

That's a great question. I have (had?) one that was a USB to Consult adapter that no longer seems to work. I don't know if it's my ancient windows XP laptop that I'm running it on, or the adapter. There are some on eBay that I've been meaning to try, but knowing how things usually work around here - I'll end up waiting until I have a serious problem, then order something. The software that I was called OBD ScanTech. I'm looking forward to seeing if there are some more modern options. Here's a thread from when I was working with OBD ScanTech about 14 years ago. Man I feel old sometimes. :frown:

Which one ones on eBay were you looking into? I see several but don’t want to just randomly purchase one without some recommendations. Btw….. I know the feeling old thing as I was 21 when I got into Infiniti’s and the Q.

Probably something like this. They all seem to ship directly from China. This one says it has free returns, so if it doesn't work I think you're pretty well covered by eBay.

Most of the ones on Ebay should work, as long as they have the right chipsets. It uses a U24060 and MAX232 IC chip. https://easyeda.com/mc_coolman/nissan_c ... d76b8370ac
You can actually build one yourself, if your electronically inclined. I bought one off Ebay several years ago for $20, and it works like a champ. It's really up to what software you're using that will determine how useful it is. If you spring for the paid version of Datascan I, it should be fairly helpful in testing 70% of what the real Nissan Consult I is capable of. Of course, it can't come close to what a genuine Nissan Consult II handheld can do- but those go for at least $1000 used. I saw one on Ebay for $800 not long ago, and contemplated on buying it. I held off for a day, and it was already sold.

Bet it was a dealer who gobbled it up, too. The C3+ is supposed to do everything the C2 did, but it doesn't. There are certain tasks on older cars that you simply can't do without a C2, so dealers (including mine) guard them jealously and cry when they break.

The Datascan 1 website doesn't list the G50 as a Nissan model that is supported - has it been confirmed that it will work properly?
