Hi, I was wondering, since this is the first cvt i owe, if it's normal that the car rpm hangs around the 3k mark when driving it first thing in the morning in very cold weather. It does this at speeds of about 30-40mph and It does rejust itself after 10 minutes of driving but it feels like a standard tranmisssion stuck in first gear. Thanks

yes this is normal. if you want to stop it, let go of the pedal, and reapply. it will drop down.

There are a few stops on my way to work in the morning so this doesnt seem to work for me. It just shoots back up until the motor is warm.

We regularly get temperatures between -22F and -40F and I have never noticed my Rogue hanging at 3000RPM during the warmup period. Even when starting it in Park I do not see anything above 2000RPM.

I may very well not be paying attention to the tach when it is that cold (because you are too busy shivering until the heated seats thaw the block of ice under your a**), but at those RPMs and that outside temperature the engine would be rather loud and I would like to think I would have noticed.

It wont stay that high in idle but for me to get the rogue going at 30mph it very well stays around the 3k rpm and yes you hear the engine revs loud and clear.

I did back off the gas pedal a couple of times but it still shoots back up as soon as I hit the gas again. I'll mention it to the technician on my next oil change I guess. thanks for the advice.

You should try to post a video of your instrument cluster during your cold drive showing rpm, speed, engine temp and outside temp so we can see what you're referring to.

Engine temp != transmission temp and cold temp behavior in relation to throttle response is different compared to when warm. Imstricken is correct that when the transmission is still cold, it will drop revs as soon as you let off the gas as part of the logic but once everything is at normal operating temps, it shifts as it would normally.

Also, the 1st gen Rogue CVT behaves very differently from the 2nd gen Rogue during driving, both in cold and normal operating temps. The 2nd gen CVT and engine works better and is more refined IMO, especially when the engine is cold.
