So i just bought this I30t and ive had the car 3 days and 2 coil packs (cylinder 3 and 5) have gone bad. I work at the place i bought the car (Niello Infiniti) and theyve been super cool and have just replaced them for me. However, should i expect the other 4 to go down within the next month or what? Im thinking maybe the detailers sprayed the engine and got the coils really wet? I not only had a CE light it was blinking and the master tech told me that meant the cats were really being stressed by a BAD misfire. Since this has happened twice have my cats been stressed already? My service advisor says the cat problem is the most common on these cars. Now this car has 75k, one owner who did all the maintainence but the ypipe has never been replaced. I see that aftermarket ones (catted) make good power and will pass the sniffer test but not the visual. (Which is fine i have plenty of friends that can do smogs for me) Should i expect to also have to replace the cats soon? Can i replace them with an aftermarket ypipe and still have the car be almost as quiet as it is now? Other then that i absoluty love the car. Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure how stringent Ca sniffers are, but it would take a lot of driving, and rich fuel/exhaust to foul the main cat. It can be done, but like I said, I'm no emissions expert. The cats can be replaced, and keep the stock sound. You do not need to replace the Y-pipe, just the main cat, and possibly the precats, but the precats are a metal substrate cat, and would be really hard to eff up.

Thanks for the reply, however if i had to do any work to the stock cat i would just put the y pipe on anyway. Hell i may put it on to get some extra power. But i like the way my car sounds...you can barley hear it.

The Y-pipe you were speaking of in the original post was a stock Y-pipe?... If so, replace it, but know that the Y-pipe will not use a precat on the rear bank, and is only 49 state legal.
