CODE 440 GAS CAP, non OEM

hi everyone

MY CAR 2004 I35 62,000 miles

coded 440 at autozone replaced gas cap with generic non OEM

and after 5 or so miles service light went off

now it's back on [500-1,000 miles later]

tried putting cap on several times but light is staying on this time

1/ Could it be I really need an Infiniti gas cap

2 /PS since I replaced cap with non Infiniti part would this void my premium warrentee purchsed from dealer?

Is it storing the same code as before?

I have seen where cheap non OEM caps can cause a faulty seal, but you may have some other evap leak that the system is detecting. You need to have a smoke test done on the evap system to determine where the leak is.

No, an aftermaket gas cap will not void your warranty (only on the gas cap if it was covered under your warranty).

since my question, I tightened the cap and gave it a push and side to side motion

service light shut off after about 20 miles

so probably is just a "weak" cap seal

will pick up one from the dealer

I think the cap should start "chattering" (when turning it) when it is on tight enough
You might want to go back to autozone to make sure no code is still there even though
the light is off (to ensure a smooth car inspection later)

yep did that"chatter'

had to give it that extra push and "nudge" to get it to work

maybe just a bad cap

figure the one from dealer would be better[maybe]

well at least I am certain it will be more than $11.99
