Does replacing the clutch master and slave cylinder cause the clutch to start slipping? The car is a 93 s13 and i took it to a shop to have the clutch fluid flushed because it was black. the shop checked it and told me that the master cylinder needs to be replaced as well as the slave cylinder because it was leaking. After it was done they told me that i need a new clutch because it was slipping and couldn't handle the change in the hydraulics. is this true? i've searched and couldn't find info. thanks to anyone who answers.

To me something just doesn't sound right. "Couldn't handle the new hydraulics" sounds a lot like what they replaced your old stuff with wasn't the right part. For the clutch to all the sudden decide to start slipping would mean the slave cylinder's rod is pushing out on the fork slightly disengaging the clutch. Making it slip. If your clutch was fine before hand, installing new parts shouldn't me it worse. So thats about all I could think of. Replacing the clutch would probably fix the problem since there is more to it in girth, but I'd guess something isn't right down at the slave cylinder. Its pushing out too far, be it pressure of the rod is too long. My two cents.

Well my friend, I struggled with this issue two years ago and *&&!@$ well went insane trying to get the air out of the clutch system. Oh ya, they'll say its all out, but it's not.Do your searches and you will find the hyd clutch line has a "loop" located under the pasengers foot area. This loop makes it #$%^&&** impossible to bleed the system without a pressure bleeder and alot of patience. Many people remove this loop for a firmer pedal as well. I spent alot of time and money screwing around with my new slipping clutch until I finally swallowed my pride and took it into a shop that had the bleeder equipment and new what they were doing.Further, when you get the air out you can make clutch pedal adjustments but go slow or you can shoot yourself in the foot on that also.

Same thing happened to mine. After a few tries, I gave up and sent it to the shop. Their equipment got the air out and the slipping issue was solved.

thank you for the replies. for a while i was able to drive the car without any problems but the slipping problem came back and now my pedal has to be nearly up before it engages. i've taken it back to the shop a couple of times now. is the clutch damper something all mechanics should know about or is this something that needs to be mentioned? im so tired of dealing with this and im starting to think that i should just take it to a nissan dealer.
