I have really awful news for everyone here who knew Cliff.

Cliff, 2 girls, and another guy were driving back from El Paso to Lubbock. One of the girls was driving a Honda sedan (Civic or Accord, and none of us knows who she is). While attempting to pass someone on a 2 lane road in New Mexico, the driver's side tires slipped off the road. A wind gust blew the car farther, and overcorrection on the part of the driver caused it to roll toward the driver's side. Cliff took most of the hit, as his side seems to have come down first.

As far as anyone can tell, he was in a state of shock when the incident happened, and it seems he went quickly.

The other three were taken to a hospital, but the driver seems to be worst off.

Newspaper article from the Lubbock paper detailing the wreck.

I just thought you all had a right to know, seeing as he was pretty active here.

I'll keep this updated as I get new information. (Last updated 2/5 at 6:54PM Central)

Cliff's family has asked that donations be sent here:

The Cliff Wilson Scholarship Endowmentc/o Texas Tech University, College of EngineeringBox 43103Lubbock, TX 79409

They truly thank you for your support and condolences.

Just to verify my knowledge, he and I were neighbors until I moved across Austin a few months ago and he went out to Texas Tech.

I updated it, and it didn't move up, so here's a bump.

His parents are taking the situation particularly hard, as he was an only child.

I'll send all condolences their way, they need all the help they can get.

That's terrible. Cliff went to Texas Tech with me here in Lubbock. We were in an engineering group together. He was a nice and intelligent guy. I fell really sorry for his parents. Only a freshman in college, that's to bad.

Ari, thank you for posting that. If his parents are accepting donations, or have a charity they're directing donations too, please let us know. His poor parents. He was only 18.

My condolences to family and friends. I didn't know Cliff either, but after hearing the tragic news, it doesn't seem right not to say anything.

I'm not sure about donations, I'll be finding out this afternoon about funeral services, etc.

It's been pretty rough out here.

Just a little update.

Cliff's friends are scrounging up some money toward a boquet for his parents. I'm not sure yet about donations or anything else, as the family is only talking to one friend (not me) whom I have to get information from.

I had the unfortunate job of telling one of Cliff's favorite high school teachers the news. The look on his face sent me home for the day.
