Cigarette Lighter

My cigarette lights doesn't work. I might have blown the fuse but im not sure. I had my ipod plugged into it n all of a sudden it stopped working. Any idea what i could do?

Most likely just the fuse. Sometimes the cig lighter plugs get a little "tweeked" in the socket and can short out. Or when you plug in the plug it's bent a terminal in the socket and now it won't make solid contact.

I've also found debris in the socket many times. Coins, earrings, etc. Make sure there isn't anything in it.

what kind of fuse should i get, where can i get it, and how do i fix it?

I'm not sure what your car has in it. Check your fuse box. It probably uses the mini blade fuses. Check your owners manual if you don't know where to find that fuse. Either under the dash or under the hood. Most cars have two fuse boxes. Lighter may be wired with the Dome light fuse or it may be labeled Interior light. Did you interior light stop working as well?

You sure the lighter isn't working or is it just the ipod adapters fuse in the cord for the ipod? Does anything else work in the lighter socket?

the ipod adapter works fine in my brothers car so it must be the lighter itself

You might try bending the prongs/contacts in the lighter socket for a firmer grip.

wrap a few turns of electrical tape around accessory plug to increase its girth

I guess first thing I'd do is get a test light or multimeter and touch the black lead to the barrel of the lighter socket and the red to the center terminal of the lighter. Make sure it's really out and that your ipod plug isn't just the wrong size.

The iPod adapter works. I just don't want to have to keep holding it to play music.

It won't stay in, it pops out. It won't lock.
