Hey y'all I'm Sean and I am a new member here. I just made my 2nd payment on my '08 SL CVT with everything but the sports package (though I was able to get the spoiler outta the dealer for no extra). I was wondering if there is any way that I can get my cigarette lighter to have power even when the car is off. I can never find my AC charger for my cell and thus it only gets charged in my car. I thank you all for your help and I hope to be more active on here. I plan on adding where I can to the V but the fiance is watching the bank account pretty heavily... dang mediterranean honeymoon cruise keeping me from some decent subs.

You would have to run a wire from a direct source (under dash or in engine bay) to the cigarette lighter.

It's probably easier and safer to buy another AC charger.

you can turn the key to the last position before you start the car and that enables all the electronics to work, yet not running the car.

Think he's wanting it to charge when he's out of the car and the ignition is completely off.

Over long period it would drain the battery as well.

exactly. I work for 24 hours and could leave my cell in the car at night when everyone else is sleeping. I was hoping I could piggyback on a constant in the fuse box but i don't know. Thanks again!

Charging your cell off the car battery should not drain the car battery unless it's already very nearly dead. There's a lot more amp hours in the car batter than your little cell phone will drain.

As fas as getting the 12v plug to have constant power you might be able to trace the wires for the plug and get them hooked into a constant instead... but it's not going to be easy. You might able to able to directly wire up a car charger into a constant power source and just run that wire out some where in the car. I suspect though it would be easiest to buy two batteries so you could have a changed on one hand and just use an AC changer.

Meaning any 12V device you plug in (cigarette lighter or otherwise) doesn't work? There have been problems with the 12V sockets going bad on the V. Mine did that... took it into the dealership and they replaced the socket and it works fine now.

I cant even pop the lighter in. It wont stick in it. I can charge my phone and GPS in it perfectly fine, but the lighter wont work. Are there different sizes for the lighters?

I personally would buy an aftermarket lighter socket and wire it up myself. It is very basic wiring and you could mount it anywhere convenient (perhaps under the dash?)

Technically it's actually a 12V power socket, not a cigarette lighter. Cigarette lighters aren't actually an option for the Versa.

And yes, they can be different diameters. the one from my Rambler is T-I-N-Y compared to a modern one.

So this may be a case where you need an aftermarket lighter.

Right, and be careful to check the amp rating. The Versa's power socket has a 15-amp fuse, and many real cigarette lighters require 20 amps. You could change the fuse at the box to a 20, since that's the only thing on the circuit, but I'd want someone who knows more about it verify whether the wiring to the socket will support the extra amperage.
