So thanks to my wealthy Uncle Sam, who just sent me some money.. heh heh..I got buy myself some new toys. Now I am a drummer, through and through. I have played drums for about 17 years now. I have played around on guitar for about 5 years, and I can play some decent rhythm, but never any lead stuff. So now I am starting a band, where we have a couple guitarists and I have a good friend who is a phenomenal drummer.. probably better than me. So I decided to try my hand at bass. I have played around with a bass before but never have had my own or had much practice time on one. But I know I have excellent timing, and playing rhythm guitar I can hear melody fairly well also, so hopefully bass should be a no brainer!

On to my goodies!

Let me say this, this amp is massive. It is much larger than I anticipated! And it about takes my head off with the volume at about 3 and a half. It has a built in tuner, 2 channel - one clean, one distortion, and it even has a built in octave shift, it adds a second signal to your tone, one octave lower than you are playing.. so it really has some low end crunch and thump.

The bass, I haven't got yet, should be here tomorrow. It had active electronics for a very reasonably price. It has a lot of great reviews, so I hope it is not a disappointment.

That Dean looks like a good deal. I'm currently playing a friend's Yamaha RBX170 through a Peavey TKO 65 ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com...11081), but I would like to have a bass of my own so I can practice at home.

Let me know how you like the Dean once you get it.

I like the Dean! I have a few gripes, but overall, I think it is a killer bass for the price.

I am completely new to bass, I have fooled around with a buddies before, but never really set down to play with one too much. I have an understanding of what the difference is between active/passive electronics.. but my first gripe is the guitar came with nothing to explain the electronics. There are four knobs on the guitar and it took quite a bit of digging on the internet to find out exactly what each knob does... I know one is a volume, that is obvious, but beyond that out of the box, it took some fooling around to know this is a preamp gain control, and you could kind of tell the other two were bass and treble. It just would have been nice to have a pamplet or two page little book or something!

My other gripe is the neck, it was really dry. I had to condition it with some products to get it nice and "moist" so it was playable. I plan on replacing the strings soon, as these seem to be pretty cheap strings that came on it. But the tone is killer... I have no gripes about the tone at all of the bass. I can dial in some very jazzy tones, to some very bottom end thumping heavy bass lines. For the money, you cannot beat it.
