Why a concern, because China exported 32 million tires to US in 2006 vs S. Korea 15 million and Japan's 22 million. The labels don't conform making it hard to tell who made what where!

USA Today. 500,000 units Westlake, Telluride, YKS, and Compass to name a few

Skipped the bonding safety gum strip and didn't meet minimal US tire Standards.

My guess is the problem is 10 times worse than has been caught so far

"FTS, in its filing, said it sold Hangzhou tires to these distributors: Tireco, Compton, California; Strategic Import Supply, Wayzata, Minnesota; Omni United USA Inc., Jacksonville, Florida; Orteck International Inc. of Gaithersburg, Maryland; K&D Tire Wholesalers LLC, Carlsbad, California; and Robinson Tire in Laurel, Mississippi."

"The largest tire recall in the U.S. involved 14.7 million Firestone tires in 2000, said Sean Kane, president of Safety Research & Strategies, a consumer group. "I wouldn't expect this to rise to that number," he said."

Good catch...

At least someone is being properly reactive instead of sweeping it under the carpet.

I don't recognize any of these brands except maybe Telluride (Sears?). Where are they sold?

I think they're intentionally trying to kill us all with their defective products.

Hopefully by "they", you mean the manufacturer/company, not the country.

I've had more brand name items stamped "Made in Mexico" crap out on me than the ones stamped " Made in China".

So I can't agree with the "country" version.

Not related to the tire recall, but here is a report regarding more issues with Chinese manufacturing.

http://web.mac.com/joseph.lake....html

I would think that almost everyone with more than 10 brain cells is only slightly surprised by all this. No country is immune to this kind of issue, especially in a country as large as China. The part that worries me isn't bargain basement tires, but the fact that half the time you can't tell where something was made, especially with food and drugs. The toothpaste that killed in South America was not manufactured in China and therefore would not have been labeled that way. Just one component was.

I guess this won't be a real problem until it starts effecting the stores where the CEOs shop.

Just got this....

Apparently the tainted toothpaste, at least 900,000 tubes, were being handed out by hospitals, prisons and juvenile detention centers.

I'm more concerned about getting killed by their (Chinese) products than those from Mexico since they are so numerous.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending China, just stating that China isn't sitting alone, all by its lonesome, plotting & exporting dangerous products to the USA.

I should have been more clear in my original post.

What I should have stated was "....non-consumable brand name items...." , I have no personal experience with consumable items out of China since I am very picky as to what I consume. (Where it comes from, how its handle/processed,etc...)

The last 3 power tools that were stamped "Made in Mexico" that I purchased were crap, even though they were brand name items.

The same power tools except stamped "Made in China" have exceeded the amount of time/stress that the previous 3 from Mexico were put through and are still working beautifully.

Dangerous Grocery/HBA imports are a problem regardless of country of origin.

But again, Caveat emptor, and that applies to all merchandise.

China has the industrial base that we used to have in the States, so almost everything is made over there. Welcome to the New World Order!

If we think that the quality of life has gone down, wait till the North American Union kicks in along with its new currency, the Amero.
