I have a 2009 Nissan Rogue and the Check engine soon light is on. My mechanic said its the valve. He said he removed the valve and hooked it up to power and there was no power so it has to be replaced. He wants $200. I saw a part on line for part# 14935JF00B which I'm pretty sure is the one and I also saw instruction son how to change it which are pretty simple. Any thoughts regarding this would be appreciated. Is this the right part?
Thanks

Your mechanic said it's a valve and you are giving us a part # for EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE. We have no idea if that is the correct part #. Did you get something from the mechanic with that part #?

If that is the correct valve you are talking about you can get it on ebay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NISSAN-EVAP-CAN ... 97&vxp=mtr

Here are the instructions from another user on this forum, vent-control-valve-replacement-step-by- ... 14045.html

I got that part # from research on line. Mechanic says valve that attaches to the canister so I'm assuming that's it....people have said on line that their light is on also and replaced the vent control valve.

Did he give you the code for the check engine light? If not you can go to Autozone or somewhere like that and they will read the code for free, takes 2 min. If you get that code that will help.

From here, http://engine-codes.com/p0447_nissan.html
it says there are 3 possible causes:
- Faulty Canister Vent Control Valve
- Canister Vent Control Valve harness is open or shorted
- Canister Vent Control Valve electrical circuit poor connection

Another site says:
1.HARNESS OR CONNECTORS THE SOLENOID VALVE CIRCUIT IS OPEN OR SHORTED.
2. EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE.

It sounds like that is the part you need especially if your mechanic said it is (assuming he tested the circuit).

From the write-up on this forum I posted this is absolutely a DIY job.

You could either buy it online or get it from a local dealer and ask them if you can return it if it doesn't fix your issue.

Have you changed it yet? How did it go?

Just for future reference I was able to find Nissan technical article on that specific code: P0447

DTC Code: P0447
Description: Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Open
Probable Causes:

Sensor or solenoid faulty
Connector terminal contact is damaged or corroded
Wire harness - Check harness for correct voltage, open, short to ground or short to voltage
Update control unit software - Check for the latest control unit update
Powertrain or Engine Control Module faulty
Vacuum leaks, damaged hoses or improper routing
EVAP system - Check fuel cap, canister, valves or components

I'm waiting for the valve part from EBay and then I'll pray that it fixes the problem... I'll keep you posted. Thanks

Cool.
Did some searching and came across this post, post6512237.html?hilit=gas%20cap#p6512237

I'm guessing this is not your problem since you had a mechanic diagnosis it, but you never know. Double check that you gas cap is on correctly. You would then need the code cleared and wait and see if it comes back. If it comes back it's not your gas cap.

I had the vent control valve replaced this morning and the light is still on. Would you suggest I unplug the battery and then the light should go off and just see if it goes on again or just wait a while. Thanks

Did you have your mechanic do it? He should of cleared the code.

You need to get the code cleared. If it comes back then that did not fix the problem.

Disconnecting the battery for an hour will not clear the code. It may turn the light off, but the code will still be stored in the computer.
Either ask the mechanic to clear it, will take less than a minute or stop by any nissan dealer and ask them if they will clear it. maybe call first and ask.

Car: 1999 Infinity i30

Post

Hello, everybody,

I'm new here, although not all that new to Nissan/Infinity

I have a question and hope somebody can help me figure out way forward:

I recently bought 1999 Infinity I30 for my teenage son. It had 130K on it and ran fine until some yougsters rear-ended it - mostly body damage. I got it fixed and the car runs fine (sort of) but now it has Check/Service Engine Soon light on.
Had Autozone read the codes and they gave me: P0325, P0450, P1446
- so the Evap System which makes sense since it is in the back where the car was hit...

My question is what happens if I just ignore the CEL and continue driving as is:
- first of all: is it safe? Then will it be reliable?
- what will be affected - gas mileage, power, environment, annual inspection, etc?
- How much may it cost to fix it - if it is more than couple hundred $, there's no point in fixing it since the car itself is worth about $3K, maybe $3.5K.
- Can I maybe find a used part that may be needed and use it to save $s: canister, valve, etc - whatever that may be?

Any insight and suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.
