Check engine light

My automatic z non turbo check engine light came on recently. At the moment I don't have the money to take it to a mechanic. I would like to see if I can fix it myself. What should I check when the light comes on?

About 3/4 way down, tells you how to check for codes. Do not need a code scanner for this. Remember it gives you what is "failing", doesn't always mean the sensor is bad. Could be wiring, connection, ground, another sensor making that sensor fail. Best thing to do is check the ecu, then post up here.
