my check engine light just came on, 98 max. i have an emissions test coming up in a few months and the engine light is an instant fail. i was wondering if there is a diy guide to the engine light of things to check/replace on your own? i searched through several pages of threads on here and didn't see anything related to this. thanks.

Take your car to Autozone and the likes for free diagnostics and then get a printout of the fault code so we can help you. Another way is to extract the fault code yourself using the info from sticky "The most informant info for Maxima/I30/I35."
