the car 90 q45

the back story

i need to change the oil so i popped the drain plug on the pan, and took the air box off to get at the filter, filled the car with 10-40 max life and 3/4 of a bottle of hyperlube, put everything back together, went to start the car and it took FOREVER to start, so i held the key down 8-10 seconds and it finally started.

the check engine light stayed on, i took it around the block and these are the problems

=takes forever to start=wont rev past 3k (rev limits it self) in N, D, P=when the throttle remains constant the RPMs drop and kick back on making the car buck

and

=the car wants to die when starting out

I ordered in a new MAF and put it in thinking that would fix it but it didnt, so i returned it

the only other thing i can think of is when i was putting in the oil i spilled some over the valve cover and might have fouled out a coil pack... but i didnt think that it would act like this with a dead cylinder... becides it runs pretty smoothly ticks a little but smooth otherwise

anybody?

The oil filter is always accessed from the bottom.

Bet is your MAF connector is effed as that is what ususally happens.

How are your chain guides?

how did you access the Oil filter from the top of the car? I never heard of that, I guess you learn something new everyday. Did you have any signs of a problem before you changed the oil anything at all?

Well, they always are as far as the driver knows until they fial catastrophically.

The point is, are they the new metal plate backed ones, or the original ones? Read the post in the Articles forum. You could save yourself a lot of heartache.

The 3,000 rpm points to a corroded CAS connector which you probably stressed in removing Air Box........................why one never changes oil filter from top..............move too many OLD wires and connectors.

And sometimes they're bad habits! The filter can be accessed by removing the air box - but doing so on a regular basis stresses the fragile MAF connection. It's much better to raise the vehicle and change everything from underneath - which also gives you a chance to inspect for leaks and future maintenence items. Also, I have never figured out how one cleans up the oil spill from the filter when changing it from the top. I go through a can of brake parts cleaner on every oil change cleaning and tidying up under there
