that does NOT charge your battery. I keep pushing this in the DIY section but . . . well talk to our moderators.

Ricko,

I have no idea why some people refuse to read the owners manual that came as standard equipment with their new car.

Maybe the words in the manual are above the comprehension level of some readers, I just don't know.

It could be that some owners lack the mechanical skill necessary to complete a task as simple as changing/replacing the I-Key battery, even after the car prompts them to change it.

When will the madness end?

I was told by the dealer that it charged the battery ... only to find out that the dealer really doesn't know much as the manual said otherwise.

I agree, the moderators should put it in a thread, if for no other reason than to help those unfortunate soles who are incapable of reading and comprehending the Altima Ownwer's Manual.

Your question, "wtf is it for otherwise" is priceless. It proves my point about reading the manual, because if you would have taken the time to read it, you would not have asked that question. You would know the answer, as yes, it is in the manual.

Here is what the Owner's Manual has to say about the I-Key:

3-6 Pre-driving checks and adjustments

When the Intelligent Key battery is almost discharged, insert the Intelligent Key into the Intelligent Key port to start the engine. Replace the discharged battery with a new one as soon as possible. For more details, see .Push-button ignition switch in the Starting and driving section.

5-6 Starting and driving

WARNINGWhen the battery of the Intelligent Key runs down, insert the Intelligent Key into the Intelligent Key port until a click sounds. And then, push the ignition switch to start the engine.

5-7 Starting and driving

INTELLIGENT KEY BATTERY DISCHARGE

If the battery of the Intelligent Key is almost discharged, the guide light of the Intelligent Key port blinks and the indicator appears on the vehicle information display. See Vehicle information Display in the Instruments and controls section. In this case, inserting the Intelligent Key into the port allows you to start the engine. Make sure the Intelligent Key is placed in the correct direction: The front side faces upward and the key ring side faces backward as illustrated.

5-8 Starting and driving

NOTE:The Intelligent Key port does not charge the Intelligent Key battery. If you see the low battery indicator, replace the battery as soon as possible. See Intelligent Key battery replacement in the Maintenance and do-it-yourself section.

8-25 and 8-26 Maintenance and do-it-yourself

INTELLIGENT KEY BATTERYReplace the battery in the Intelligent Key as follows…….pictures included.

Every post. Really? Maybe some of us get tired of the same questions being asked because someone didn't bother to read their owners manual or is too lazy to use the search button.
