I've read the archives, found out to use 75w90 for the transmission.

My 240 is a 5 speed.

My question is how much of it do I need, I plan removing the shifter and removing the 2 plugs in the transmission and lowering her down to level to drain it all out.

2 quarts? and half a quart of ATF? I've never done this before :)

Thanks

yes, it is 2.5 quarts. I just changed mine about three weeks ago and it was the original fluid (with 200k miles on it) the oil looked like badly burned motor oil, it stank like a mofo and there was a golfball sized chunk of gear teeth on the magnet. Maybe that is why my transmission shifts funny.....

Still didn't smell as bad as the oil I got out of my open diff, fook, that stuff was NASTY!

FSM says it's 2.4 liters, or 5 1/8 pints.

ya, my chiltons says 5 1/8 pints or 2.42 litres. im dropping the transmission, (cause my 5th gear up and buggered off on me), and im gonna fill it up with royal purple MaxGear oil. i reccomend doing the same.

I don't know about adding ATF into a manual... maybe if you want to clean it, pour some in and run it for a mile or so and drain it. But I don't think mixing atf with Gear oil would be a good idea.

Sorry this is off the subject kinda but when you pull the driveshaft out of the trans. it says to plug it so it doesn't leak. How bad does it leak when you do this? and also what do you plug it with, a rag or something?

5 pt = 2.5 qtI just changed mine last week on my 93. I had 5 quarts and used all of it between the diff and the transmission (but I had a couple spill problems). 3 quarts should be enough.
