Has anyone tried to replace the low beam bulbs for something brighter or different color. I have replaced my fog bulbs and that was pretty easy. Are the low beams much more difficult to replace, how do you go about doing this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I tried to install it once but it was a pain, even the dealer said its a pain and it took them about an hour to install my new HID headlight and High Beams.

Just curious - what did you change your fog lights out to? How 'easy' was it (how much of the car did you have to dismantle)?

I changed them to luminics 6000k pure blue bulbs. You just have to dismantle the lower grille and then you can reach under and behind the foglight to unscrew the bulb.

I hope it doesn't rain a lot where you are using 8000k bulbs. Horrible light output even for HID.

I also bought some new HID bulbs. But I went for the 6k. I just hate that yellowish color that Ms have. Did anyone have any pointers on the installation outside of a dealer? Pics?

I did replace front and rear turning signals bulbs for some stealth ones. Now you can't see that yellow dot in the housing. Looks great.

Thanks

I didn't see any specific instructions about how to change just the headlight. After the dealer quoted me a price of over $300, I'd prefer to do it myself, so any help will be great appreciated. I have a 2003 M45 that needs a headlight replacement. Thanks! K

jack up the car, remove tire, remove front portion of wheel well protector... you will then have direct access to projectors, just unscrew plastic dust cap, turn the metal ballast connector to remove from bulb, unclip metal spring and pull out the bulb... insert new bulb and reverse! remember to use jack stands to prevent car from falling on you.

i changed mine out to 6000k... i just got my 3000k fogs in the mail i have to put them in within next couple of days

not sure exactly if this will work for ur 03 45... but figured id post if anyone wants to know for 06+m's

i just replaced my bulbs to 6000k; kind've a huge pain in the a**, but i got it done;

obviously you have to pull off the tire and then unbolt the inner fenderwell and bend it back to reveal the headlight assembly;

now my lights look super cool cause my fogs and my low beams match, being that they are both 6000k

Do you need to go through this same procedure (opening the inner fenderwall) to change out a high beam bulb, or are they easier to access?

If you are going to change the HID and HIghbeams then take advantage of it and replace the turning signal bulb for those silver coated ones. It's better looking than the slighly orange ones from the outside. That is what I did.

Go to superlumination.com Search the bulb size. I can't remember now what it is. But the one fully coated with silver works just fine. They also have another one where is half coated. That website I got my high beams. They have one where outside it looks like a slight yellow/green.. but its just a hint of it. It matches during the day the horrible green thing in our headlight housing. I know.. detail oriented.

Looked on the site, is the bulb size 7440 Single Filament Silver Stealth and did you go with the amber color? Also, what does the bulb look like lit?brighter?

They are not brighter. In the front the housing is so small that I couldn't tell a difference. It is the 7440. And I did go with Amber to keep the stock look. I also replaced the ones on the back. That way the yellowish color inside the white section of our tail lights don't show. They looked good and they were a bit LESS bright. If they have the one where is half coated silver, then go with that one. I had to change them back, by the way, since I tinted my entire back tail lights.

By the way everyone. When I bought my car my aim was off. I called the dealer and they said they had to do it. ($135) That they plug a machine. Its not true. With a screw driver you can move the aim higher or lower. There is even one that can help you adjust right or left. (And I have the function that moves them right/left, 6k bulbs).

Installed low beam to HID 6600K blue cobalt, matches the HID 6000K fog.Have not seen them at night, but in garage, looks awesome.

Also, changed out high beam to super white with hint of blue, looks much brighter, always thought our high beams were too dim.

what kind of bulbs did you go with?

What's the best type of bulb to replace the headlights with?

I'm also interested in this mod. I already have the 6k hid fog and 6k led low beam. I am now interested in changing the headlight to 6k to match all my lights. What bulb size is it and where do I get one?

I bought mine at ebay. They seemed to have the best prices. Some of them are guaranteed as well. The size is D2S. I dont reccomend going above 6k in color. The higher you go the less light output you are going to have. I have matching fog and headlights at 6k and it looks great.

I have not seen a 6600k in color. But it sounds good. And yes, its a pain to install those.

Here is a crappy quality picture of mine taken with my phone. The top is not as white as the bottom that's why I want to change the top. (the fogs use a lot of power I find)

The fog lights have a clear exposed lens. In comparison the headlight is in a projection based lens, which cuts the light different than the fog light. Switch your headlight bulbs to 6k to match the color. However you won't see the same brightness in the fog and the headlight.

When I get it back from the shop I will take a look at how it looks at night and make a decision. The DS2 bulbs are kind of expensive if you're buying good ones but one blows for whatever reason I will replace with 6000K no doubt.

D2S is the only direct replacement. Check out Ebay. You have choices ranging from $35 to $149 with shipping.
