I bought my Z exactly two weeks ago from today. I learned how to drive stick on it, i had no idea before i sat in that car. Anyway, i pretty much have mastered it. I don't stall while driving anymore, but once in a while when parking out of stupiditly. Like forgetting to put it in neutral before letting of the clutch. Anyway, i still have a problem with shifting into second gear. The REV (I think it says REV) orange light comes on, and its sometimes bumpy. Can anyone help me out? How do i do a smooth second gear ****? Thanks a lot guys

Eh, 1 out of the 4 times ill get an *ok smooth transition from 1st to 2nd.

Idk why but everything after that will be perfectly smooth.

Two weeks is hardly enough time to "pretty much have mastered it", when it comes to operating a manual transmission.

You should already know that based on the fact that you're asking for advice on making a smooth 1st to 2nd transition.

if you have a shakey secoend gear engagement you havn't mastered it yet jsut keep doign it, not familiar with any rev light but I suspect you are either gassing between shuifts or shifting too low

Its not a rev light its the shift light. Which you can change to whatever you want.

My second gear seems to clunk into place. I'm fairly sure it's nothing to do with me, as I've been driving stick since... Well, since I could drive. It's all I've ever driven. Uh, if we're talking about two different things, than I apologize, n stuff.

heres my suggestion.... try riding first up to about 4k RPM's then Push the clutch all the way to the floor board shift to second and let it all the way out before touching the gas, but not too quick of a let out, because it is revd at 4k... unless you do it slow enough for the RPM's to drop i guess... try that with all your shifts during regular driving for a bit, you should develop a smoother shift throughout all gears. I dunno, thats all i can come up with. Your shift light can be changed to any RPM on the tachometer. I don't feel like explaining it right now, but its done on the digital speedometer/temp display/mpg/trip timer gauge. e-mail me if you need details on how to do it, i may just take pics and and write it up then post it on here....

I've only ever owned cars that were manual, and i've only driven manuals. This is by far the hardest car to perfect shifting. I know there is a recall on the 06-07 slave cylinders. Which is preventing the clutch from fully disengaging sometimes. I don't know exactly if that's the problem with shifting. Or just driver error.

I have and appointment on tuesday they're gonna take care of that for me. So hopefully wednesday I'll report back on that.

I've driven an 06 Z06 and that was easier to drive..and don't even get me started on the G coupe lol, Oh how I wish it was as easy as that!!

*side note i tried this a few times, when i go to second my foot is still on the gas like about 5% so when i disengage the clutch the rev kind of shoots up, i then shift and engage..seemed to work a whole lot smoother, takes a few tries though.

I don't mean to be rude, but didn't you get an Owner's Manual with this purchase? They're printed for a reason. As for the 1st to 2nd shift, I'm not sure if this applies to other MT drivers out there, but from what I have figured out, when you shift into second, make sure you enter second gear quick, along with your clutch to the floor. And of course the most important is the see-saw effect on gas and clutch.

I actually do the see-saw thing, but it feels when I actually remove my foot completely off the clutch, the engaging of the gear is still kinda rough. Maybe it's just me, but I have no problem what so ever shifting in my 240sx, those shifts are smooth as heck.

Also, the clutch pedal in the Z is really stiff. Maybe it just takes some getting used to.
