CEL...

I start my car in the morning time before school, and every now and then the check engine light comes on for about 5 to 10 seconds. The engine doesn't seem to be acting any different though.

I believe it's the MAF, any other possible suggestions?

Codes are saved until they are purposely erased and a few don't cause the CEL to turn ON, so even though the CEL has gone OFF, stored codes can still be checked.

That's what i thought/heard, but whenever the light goes off and i check it, i get code - 55. And as you most likely know, thats everything is okay.

But, if the light is on and i turn off the car before the light goes off, i'll get a code. I haven't done this lately because i don't have the time too, but the last time i did was when the CEL stayed on, and it was my coolant temperature thermostat, but i fixed it, so it's not that now.

could be an egr function as well ,, but as JerryO said it should store codes ..
