yeah so this weekend, just like every other weekend, our fridge here in our university-owned apartment was stocked to the brim with beers. 3 30 racks worth, to be exact.

we started drinking around 9 or so, playing beirut (beer pong) on our custom made table, listening to tunes, and basically having a fun time pregaming to the nights parties.

our fun ended though around 9:30, when the local RA (resident assistant) miltants knocked on the door and informed us that the guards at the entrance to the building reported seeing "suspicious looking bags" being brought in. sigh.

they manage to find all the beer in our fridge (well hidden as it was... :rolleyes ), and packed it up into bags. they called the university police (turkey bacon...), and we've now got a court summons for underage (I'm 20 years old) posession of alochol. also, the housing director for our building has sent us all letters saying that we might get KICKED OUT of our dorm (with no reinbursment of the rent costs) for the rest of the academic year. we all have to have individual meetings with her to place blame on the menaces that thought it would be ok to drink some beers.

So yeah, I might be on the street in a couple weeks. And it's cold outside here in Boston.

Is anyone here in college, or better yet an RA or policeman that might be able to help me out with this situation? Just some general advice or whatever?

The facts:1. when the cops came, nobody was drunk2. nobody got caught with actual open beers. it's underage "posession" that we're being charged with-- and the beers were in a fridge that SIX of us own.3. I neither purchaced the alochol or brought it into the building4. I'm 20 years old, birthday in October

watcha guys think?

It depends on your schools alcohol policy.

That sucks man. Where I go to school, (Northern Kentucky University) and all most of the schools around don't allow alcohol on campus no matter how old you are. When I lived on campus there were a few people in the dorms that got kicked out for having alcohol, but they had also been caught before with it. If your school has a rule like that then they unfortunately have every right to do the same without reimbursing you, but if it's your first time you'll probably get off fairly easily. The school doesn't want to kick you out because they don't want to lose the future tuition that you will pay them. Most likely what'll happen though is you'll just get a ticket for a minor possesion, do a little community service and the campus housing deptartment will put you on "probabtion" for the rest of the academic year.

Yeah, if there was one person there that was 21, all the beer was theirs. Sometimes its good to play dumb. But it all depends on the rules (i never went to college, so i dont know how rules work). And i would definitely pay the RA guys a little "visit". What a bunch of pricks. If your were raising hell and being obnoxious, i could understand. But if you were just chillin drinking a couple of brews, than they should get a life.

they cant come in the room without your permission...you shoulnd have let them in. Thats what we do...we have a "doorman" or so to speak, but when someone knocks on the door he opens it just a crack and lets no one in or to be able to see in.

heh good ideas guys, but nope.

first, its BU. BC sucks, didnt you know that?!

second, if someone here were 21, he'd be totally screwed. universtiy policy is that you CAN have alochol if you're 21, but only under a specified amount. I think it's like a 6-packs worth or something stupid like that. Also, if we had got caught with a 21 year old in here, he'd be tagged with serving alochol to minors, a crime in Massachusutes that comes with at LEAST a $2000 fine.

We have a pub on campus too. It's underneath a castle and everything, and they've got some crazy amount of beers on tap- like 30 or something like that. Naturally, you have to be 21 to go there though. Ah, how different next year will be....

Unfourtunatly since we dont own where we live, RAs have every right to enter and search if they feel it is necessary. If they come to the door with cops, they ask you if they come in, but if you say no they'll just come in anyways. They didnt really SEARCH either- just asked us to open the fridge. They tried to be nice about it, and they were- they missed 3 handles of rum and vodka, and about 20 more beers in a different fridge...

edit:

also, about the RAs... it's not really their fault. I like our RA, she hasnt done ANYTHING to us all year.. and we've had some pretty loud parties... it's just that the GUARD suggested that she do something, and if she ignored his advice, she could have gotten in trouble for not doing her job...

the university's alochol policy is extremely vague. punishment will ultmately be subjective on the part of the hall director, who will dole out what she thinks is necessary based on our meetings. the policy simply says that punishments can "range" from probation to "removal from housing."

I know that here (UCSD) if they catch you drinking it you get a warning twice, then probation, then kicked out of dorms (but not the college itself). I think there is some rule about how much they find you with, but in your case you will probably get a warning or probation. I doubt they will kick you out, but they will be a lot more observant of your behavior..

Here's a suggestion; switch to Jim Beam Black. Way easier to hide than 90 beers! And when the RA searches your fridge, he'll just find the soda you mix it with.

Suck it up and move on. Apologize and explain the situation without sounding like you are making excuses.

Tell them you know it was wrong and against policy, and now you've learned to take them seriously the hard way. It was just in the house for everybody. Nobody was getting drunk or "binge drinking" and at least you were responsible enough to keep it indoors and not out driving around or party hopping. Maybe they'll give you a break.

Good luck Fiznat!

Repo Man: I wasnt drinking the beers, I was drinking the liquor from the handles... Captian Morgan's Spiced Rum baby... it's my favorite. I'm not about to tell the lady "Oh, I was drinking the rum you didnt find, not the beer!" haha

Maine: yeeea you're probably right. They do tons of these interviews over a year, and I guarantee that EVERYBODY is like "nah I wasnt drinking I swear!" Honesty probably is the best policy.

Ive been through a couple situations like this, a friend actually got hauled off to jail for having an "open house party" that i was at. She spent the night in jail along with her roommate, we bailed them out in the morning for 50 bucks each. When they showed up at their court date, the judge laughed and informed them that the charges had already been dropped. Now, i dont know how strict your school is, but i would think the worst you will get, if you are honest and polite, would be like a mandatory alcohol awareness class or maybe some community service hours. good luck and be respectfull. if you are defensive, they will stick it to you.

did somebody just say wait till you're 21?! what!? everyone knows that drinking becomes 35% less fun when it's legal! it's part of the thrill!

...and no, the worst I can get ISNT community service, it's getting kicked out of my room. :( My frosh year roomate is now an RA, and they had someone kicked out on his floor for less alochol... it's gonna depend on her impression of me in the meeting and if she's in a good mood or not...

I'll be honest though, it's prob the best policy.

Thats harsh man, i feel for ya. If they kicked everyone out of their dorm for drinking down here in florida, all the dorms would be empty except for the honors dorm.

Sounds to me like the rules need fixing! They need to apply a little common sense. You were not doing any bonehead things such as drinking and driving, breaking things, binge drinking, etc, etc. (which are the biggest reasons for the rules) Just play innocent and explain that you were just partaking in innocent fun, and were not endangering yourselves or anyone else for that matter. Ive always been of the opinion that you should be able to drink at 18, could (i was in germany), and it caused me no problems. But anyhow, good luck

it is 'on campus,' it's a university dorm, just apartment style for upperclassmen.

and I refuse to say that my dad's favorite beer is Bush friggin light. it's cheap, and that's about IT.

that sucks. i think the law saying you have to be 21 is bs. who the F*** thinks they are the boss and can decide what you can drink and when you can drink? think of it this way, your able to die for your country but they wont let you drink what you want.BULLSHI*. i drink whenever i go to parties, and i dont do anything stupid like driving drunk or any ruckus or anything.i just have fun, but safely (not a crazy amount).

I did see it. I lived in an honors dorm my freshman year- dont get me wrong, im no honors student. I was only there because all the other dorms were full. But during my tenure there, my roommate and i got reprimanded many many times for stupid crap like having our tv too loud at 10pm- people were trying to sleep. No one in that dorm ever did anything. I had to walk across campus to the po-dung dorms to party. I remember walking home wasted one time at like 7AM and these geeks were heading out to class, they gave me the funniest looks.
