I know that when you get a CF hood it requires a good bit of maintenance and you have to put a special coat on it...anyone here have a CF hood or know anything about them that could tell me what it involves...thanks

You have to put a clear coat on it. Also get hood pins.

Also get hood pins.

Depends, some CF hoods (usually the better ones) are designed to use the stock hood latch and dont require hood pins.

Well every cf hood i have ever seen says use hood pins before use. There is a sticker on the bottom side. right now i have drove my car for about 6 monthes without hood pins. I bought them i am just really afraid of putting holes in my 500+ dollar hood. When i get the sr in i found a place that will do it for 75 bucks, and if they screw it up they get to buy me a new hood. they put pins in my friends car and they did a good job. I think 75 is way over priced for something that will only take them like 30 minutes, but for the reassurance its worth it to me i guess.

:rolleyes just treat it as any other painted surface area on the exterior of your car....the most you would have to do is get it cleared...

don't buy a cheap CF hood...i paid 570 shipped for mine. it came from TC Spoilers (great hoods) and its already clear-gel coated and doesn't need hood pins. HOOD PINS SUCK.

I've heard that cf hoods tend to warp over time. Is this true?

Carbon fiber hoods won't warp over time. Its a composite, unless u do somethin on purpose, its not gonna warp. The worst condition is like...coatings would chip. My friend had a CF hood on his civic for like 2 years and has 1 rock chip on it. Hood Pins are for safety purposes, if you drive 120+ miles or off road or wutever and u think ur hood mite pop loose, then get hood pins. If u don't think that will ever happen, then don't.

Yeah hood pins aren't exactly a bad idea. After you have had a hood fly up and smack the windshield, you will think so too. :oface

Yeah, a hood coming up on you at speed really sucks. I never really considered it as scary when I saw it in movies and such, but when it happened to me it scared the **** outta me and it seemed to take for ever for me to slow down and get off the road.I have installed quite a few hood pins, it only takes maybe 10 min. once you decide on location.:icon18
