car wont shift into first

ok so i have a 1990 na auto 300zx ( gayest 300 ever made but watev thatll change soon)and the auto will not drop down into first, the 1 on the shifter. i took the whole center console off and looked to see if anything was in the way but nothing was... anyone have any idea wat would cause this to happen?

I've heard of this problem with manuals, but not autos. Can't help here... Sorry.

How is your transmission fluid?

The linkage is located on the passenger side of the transmission, it is possible there is something interferring with the full travel. I would start there.
