Strong gas smell = bad dont drive your car anymore. There is a fuel leak somewhere serious enough to burn your car down. Do a search on here for comon gas leak areas. Most likely you need to tighten all the fuel clamps under the hood.

White smoke = Condensation if it's within the first lets say 15-20 mins on a cold day. If it does not go away and always smokes white thats probably coolant in your exhaust. Could be blown/leaking headgasket. A 300zx does not have a carb, it's a fuel injected vehicle.

Z32's have no carburators, as a matter of fact the last Z car to come with carburators was the 1974 260Z

back to the rich cndition, look fr fuel leaks around the fuel lines, hos well does the car idle? injector O rings are a common issue but usually causes 1 cylinder to misfire

also handy to know, oil in the cylinder being burnt = whitish blue smoke, too much fuel in the cylinder being burnt = black smoke. is it time for re-ring or maybe a valve job maybe?

* there is also, somewhere on this site, stories of the fuel vapor canister becoming "full" so to speak and causing the smell of gas when there is no technical leak. the write ups also have info on how to perform a bypass on the canister if you dont feel like replacing it.
