I just got a small oil leak repaired and the gasket replaced on the oil pan of my 1992 Nissan Sentra..picked up the car last night. Today I have no power without shifing down on every hill and the car shakes and stalls at every red light. When I took it to the garage, it ran great but just had a little oil leak. It never got low on oil, was just making a mess on the garage floor, so I had it fixed. What could they mechanic have done that made the car run so bad while fixing the gasket ob the oil pan?

I wonder if it's distributor related. I'm pretty sure that is one of the vehicles that has a leaky distributor. What will happen is oil will leak inside the distributor from a bad shaft seal and coat the signal ring. When this happens, the cam sensor does not read properly and the motor runs like poopies or won't run at all. I have yet to find a rebuild kit, so if this is the issue, your gonna need a new distributor. Or maybe the guy mixed up the plug wire when he reinstalled them. That would be fairly hard to do. Maybe after fixing the two main oil leaks the pressure inside the engine is just ever so slightly higher. Because it's sealed tighter now. And suppose this caused a weak distributor seal to finally begin to leak. Just a theory. May not be true, but it sounds good. Good luck and welcome to Nico. Let us know what happens.

Not sure. It's an easy check though. Just take the distributor cap off and then take the rotor button off. After that the little plastic cover should slide off, and viola! The signal plate is staring right at you. Be careful! It doesn't take much to c*** that thing up. Visual inspection is the goal. On the cars that have the problem, that signal ring will be doused is oil.
