Ok I have a 1992 hatch with the origional 92k mile KA24DE and this is what happened.
I was driving at about 70 trying to get in front of a van before the highway merged with another, when I got in front of him the car in front of the 2 of us was moving at about 45 and I had to hit the breaks and downshift pretty hard (but not what I would call emergency breaking) after I did this my car would not accelerate... I press the gas and nothing, the car is dead and coasting. I try to restart the car and it sputters, dies and will not fire at all after that. At this point I am thinking the worst, hit the flashers and coast to the shoulder (by now the van is pissed... insant karma for me:rolleyes). On the side of the road I check the motor; nothing broken, nothing leaking, smoking or glowing so I though perhaps the timing chain went because a similar thing happend to the belt in my brother's corolla last xmas (thought there was no noise to indicate that). However since my roomate wasn't answering the phone (he was playing PS2!!!) I had to try again... this time the car started and ran fine...
My question is WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!?!?!
In addition to this I have been having a minor choking problem at idle, every few seconds the motor will drop about 25-50 rpm for a split seond like its not getting fuel. This has been with the car since I bought it.I had to replace the starter earlier this year and asked the mechanic to change the fuel filter thinking it would help, but it didn't (though I wonder if he changed it). The car has new plugs and I have been taking care of the mantainence and I HAVE seafoamed the motor once (plan on doing it again) but this doesn't seem like a carbon problem.
Anyone see these problems before? Are they related? And how can I fix this (and/or keep it from happening again) 'cause I don't have the $$ to replace the motor.
