So.. in case you havent heard yet.. I now know whats wrong with my poor lil car.. In fact it could be the worse thing i could think of to have to fix right now.. Cylinder #4 is ****ed.. we havent pulled off the head yet but its definetly ****ed up.. We did a leak down test on it and it built 0 pressure what-so-ever. Its either a pisten and/or ring most likely. To rebuild that and put aftermarket good stuff in it, it will prolly cost me 1500-2000 bucks including labor.. Im considering all my options right now, and I am seriously considering selling the engine if someone wants it, and maybe even the shell of the car, and keeping what aftermarket parts i have for the new engine i WANT to get.. With that in mind.. anyone know where i can get an RB25 from pretty cheap or w/e??. i just thought id let everyone know whats wrong with it, since everyones been asking so much about it.-Britt

Or... you could just get a spare piston from someone on here for about $15-20 and a new set of rings for $100... have the cylinders honed ($20) and bored if necessary ($80).

or you can take the money you'd spend on the rb25 and have a freshly rebuilt and reliable ca18det.

eh.. when i break things on my car.. i dont do stock replacement.. its just an excuse to upgrade... its either build up my CA which would be sweet.. BUT i can build that up for almost what i can buy an RB for, which would be even sweeter.. haha im still thinking about everything, but who knows rigt now

Ummmmmmmmmmm....... If you did a leak down test, the results WILL show if valves, pistons, rings, or holes in stuff are present.....

If you're relying on "most likely", that's BAD..

The results of a leakdown test done correctly is never "bad"..... "Bad" is meaningless... Where were the leaks heard? Did you remove the exhaust manifold to see if the exhaust valve is leaking? Oil cap to see if leaking past rings or through a hole in the piston? Intake manifold for the intake valve?

Post should have looked like:

I think my motor is fubar. I did a leakdown test today, the results were not good. The exhaust valve leaks like a mo fo so I can not build any pressure with the leakdown testing unit. I think there's a hole in the piston/nasty piston problems as lots of air comes out of the oil cap (air passing by the piston/ring assy..).

The leakdown test will show if any of the systems are failing. Post new results...

Nobody has mentioned this yet, but there is no such think as a cheap (running) RB25.

If you decide you'd rather get it back on the road quickly, I've think I've got a stock, cast piston I can sell ya. I'll have to double check though...

make friends with people who can do (most of) the work, and it'll cost a lot less

And I see your kung fu is as good as mine. I have the same mindset. I need to do the brakes on the line and it started with pads, then it was pads and turn the rotors then it was pads turn the rotors and overhaul the calipers, then it was all that and overhaul the master and replace the hoses too.We are now waiting for Project Mu teflon-coated stainless steel braided hoses, B-spec circuit pads and new heat treated rotors
