That's exactly my point.I don't see much use in them if they're going to act up anyways.I'm just going to get new wheels and do the routine checkups myself.Ever Victorious wrote:Why the long face? The system the US Versas have has been rather problematic, at least in earlier Vs.
It doesn't warn you of a blowout, only of slow leaks. I'm the type of guy who regularly checks my pressure anyway, and I can tell by looking at my sidewall if my tire is low. TPMS systems are kinda pointless in my case. They'll only notify me of a leak slow enough not to blow out the tire, but fast enough to drain a tire in just a few minutes to an hour.
It has only been federally mandated as of the 2008 model year in the US. TPMS systems have been available LONG before then, and the closer it came to 2008, the more cars had them fitted.CARI0CA wrote:They will be factory items coming soon in Canada. Does the 2008 Canadian model have them? The manual makes some mention of them, the speedometer has the lamp, but on the startup idiot lamp check, the TPMS lamp does not light up.CARI0CA wrote:They will be factory items coming soon in Canada.
My wife's previous car was running on Nexens too and they're great. Just curious, where did you get rims? I'm still trying to see if my 14" rims will fit the Versa for winter use.CARI0CA wrote:Yep!This morning I just removed the great performing winter tires (Walmart Korean made studdedable Nexens P196-60-R15
funny . . . lots of people complaining but I had no problems on ice or snowCARI0CA wrote:Yep!those stock Conti tires (P185-65-R15) which are total crap when a little snow falls.
Wow, I know we don't get as much snow around here as you do in Calgary but I don't understand. Why would you want your winter tires to be wider and lower profile than your summer tires? Wider winter tires perform more poorly in the snow. Also....I found the stock Conti's to run excellent in the snow. I had great traction in the snow we had this winter and last winter as well. It's the wet weather that the stock tires don't do so well in.CARI0CA wrote:Canadian Tire rims 15" (stock size/width) $45 or 50 or so each.. My winter tires are a bit wider & lower profile than stock. When I buy new summer tires they will be P205-60 or 55 (depending on cost) R15 on stock mags.
That is correct, but from what I understand, P185/65R15 is a very rare size for tires and thus is not a good thing if we want more choices. P195/60R15 is a much more common size and is just 1% off (i.e. 99km/h on the 195/60 and 100km/h on the 185/65) so it is a very good alternative. I'll be shopping using this size if I need to use 15" rims. I still have to do the fit test using 14" Hyundai rims. I'll let you guys know.marleyfan wrote:Why would you want your winter tires to be wider and lower profile than your summer tires? Wider winter tires perform more poorly in the snow.
TPMS is only on US cars. A couple people who responded here have US-spec cars.Xtrykr wrote:so is there TPMS in the 08s? Cause this thread has contradictory statements.
And do you peeps up Nort only have dry snow? I always thought that when it snows it was a "wet" weather situation. I experience wet driving in the snow especially when they put salt on the roads and it melts and the road gets "wetter". The stock Conti's do in fact suck. They're too narrow( for gas mileage ) for decent handling, stability compared to a 205,215/60 tire. Your Conti's are a OEM tire that'll only give 20K of service before replacement is needed. Check out Tirerack.com for the majority of crappy reviews. Yes, narrower snow tires will bite better than a wider snow tire but then you're back to square one with the poor handling performance. I'd much rather give a little snow versus handling performance any day.marleyfan wrote:
