OK, I just bought a 1993 240sx with slight front end damage (well need a new hood, fender, headlight assem., rad., and rad. support) for $300. Car already has 3" HKS exhaust and 80,000 miles, I thought was a good deal. Now, the car has no intake and nothing connected to the MAF plug or Engine temp sensor (the hose that comes out of the valve cover right?) or vacuum (located right above throttle body right?), I dont believe I have the MAF but if I were to get one and connect it would this solve my problem (cant rev above 3 grand and backfiring and the car will stall after about 7-10 minutes after I started it)? I was planning on doing an SR20 swap when college and money allows me to, but for now I just want the car to run properly. Any help would be great.

Thanks.

First of all you have to get a MAF or the car will not know how to adjust the mixture properly. Secondly, if you don't have anything connected to the coolant temp sensor, the car will flood because it will richen the mixture to compensate for the supposedly freezing temps. The coolant temp sensor is a two wire sensor. The engine temp sensor is a one wire sensor that tells your gauge what to read and will not affect the way the car runs. Neither one is bolted to the valve cover though. But you have to get your intake set up right for sure.

the hose that comes out of the vavle cover is just an emissions thing....it is actually bad for your car. It emits the fuems/gases, etc, back into your intake. You can just disconect the hose and plug up the hole on your intake. As far as an MAF sensor goes you need one...if you are planning on uprading then you might as well get a 300zx maf. The stock sensor for a 240 is around 260hp so you will need to upgrade one if you plan on an sr20 like you said.

nice deal on the car but yeah like the other guyz said u have to get ur intake up and runniing. as for ur maf it is used to calculate the amout of air is coming into the engine and if its not connected ur computer dosnt know wtf to do. also if temp sensor is not connected ur computer will think its like 40 below frezzing and will run super rich causing flooding.
