I was wondering if i could get a JDM S13 gauge cluster and use it in my car? I want the 7500RPM redline tach. I noticed that on them some of the lights are in different places. LIke the hicas light is on the dash for them and they have a exhuast overheat warning light. I plan on using the aftermarket 180MPH speedometer and will probably just end up taking the tach out of the JDM cluster and putting it in my ammerican one. Will this work?

ThanksShawn

I was told by some people that you could justuse the JDM cluster and just recalibreate the speedometer. It will still say KPH, but if you recalibrate it, it will measure MPH. I'm not completely sure about this, but they told me that, that is how they can get 180 mph speedos. They just recalibrate it and change the face to say mph instead of kph.

Plus, even if your half dead you can roughly convery kph to mph on the fly...its not brain surgery.

Use the whole cluster.

Great i finally found a thread that might help. im about to put a s-13 cluster from japan into an s-13 in the states. everything is the same except the rpm and speed. i figure the tach will work just fine if i swap it into my american cluster (right?), but im worried about the speedometer.

If i swap the whole speedometer, w/out odometer, into the american cluster, wont the numbers tick off in klicks rather than mph? it doesnt look like it can be recalibrated with out advanced computers and a team of engineers working around the clock. its just a computer board and the part that holds the needle. Also, the gauge would plug into the american odometer, which might not work since the gauge was made to run with the jap odometer. i could just swap the face because it goes just as high as the american face, only it doesnt show mph.

i would just use the whole cluster but i figure that swapping odometers counts as tampering with it and trying to adjust the miles on my car.

so anymore suggestions about the tach and speedometer working if they're swapped into an american cluster? or if my mileage will skyrocket when putting in a speedometer thats set to measure klicks rather than mph? i just dont want to get strange looks when my mileage is wildly different next smog check. i may end up just swapping the tach only :(

you can switch the speedo part out and use the stock one, as logn as you use the correct speed sensor in the trans.

well the speedo/odometer does read the miles off as miles and not klicks, buuut the damn needle doesnt move. sheesh. tach works great tho, maybe ill just keep the tach in only or at least i can find instructions on safely removing gauge needles.
