can any one please help me, i dont know what to do

i am the new owner of a 1980 Datsun 720. its been having problems lately, when I drive it there are times it will die and not start for couple hours, this has happened when I drive 4 blocks or couple miles. there are times when it doesn't die at all. it happens completely randomly. I have no funds and little experience with engines, what can I do? also my gad gauge doesn't work how can I fix that?

I'm not fimilar with Datsun 720 but this happen to my 240sx and I removed the aiv and problem solved now it idels good and the rpms don't bounce while i stop at stop sign

what is the "aiv" im not very educated when it comes to engines, im sry.

It's air injection valve look it up on google image I'm not too sure if your car has it but it kept making my car die after I drove it for a little bit when I came to a stop my other quess is spark plugs

sry just getting back to ya, I have replaced spark plugs and wires. still having problem. I have also gotten a hanes book. did you remove the valve and put housing back on or just remove whole aiv system hose to manifold and all.

I removed the whole assembly now I got a pipe sticking out the manifold I plugged that one too
