As the title says, my alternator in the z31 happily brings all my good batteries from 12v to 8v till finally the car dies.

I just put in a bit of sound gear last night (post dodgy alternator) and I have a busted z32 TT one I could get rebuilt to slide in and help with the sound system and keep the car alive since Im sure it would provide more amps then the z31's.

It looks doable, just need to change the pully from ribbed to v belt which I can grab off the dud one.

not sure if the mounting ears or plugs are the same but both are internally reguated alternators and work the same way, so in theory it could be made to work

I think I found a problem here

Does this just earth onto the housing? can it just be crimped back under one of the two smaller nuts around that big one?

The following photos show my two alternators left is Z31 and rightis Z32

Besides the housing design differences front side dimensions the same

rear side view shows the harness goes in slightly different places but it all connected up

All the brackets and pulleys line up

So my conclusion based on an opinion from a member of another forum that the two cant be swapped because "There is a square plug, a small earth that is screwed into the housing, a positive that is bolted down using a nut" is that a previous owner has already converted my car to z32 because I give you the harness as used on my Z31I can see that the plug/crimps were put there post nissan factory

What do you think?
