Its a standard Tilton hydraulic release bearing, they have several different versions with different sized bearings.

Hey tommy, would their be room for 100mm stroke in the block and 85.5 bore? :ohno: might be easier to put the spool crank in 87.6 stroke and use ca main brace with longer rods.
I can get these engines locally which is a plus. Keep up the good work

Diesel crank is the way to go, offset grinding to 92mm is better than 100mm
Spool crank is heavier & Nissan factory forgings are of legend lil comes close.

85.5 bore is no problem, but if it is room for 100mm i really dont know.
I dont know how much griding is required for 92mm yet either.
The CA main girdle isn`t an option i think.

Yea, that bore isn't an issue. My CA18 is being rebuilt right now, and I had it bored to 84.5mm and there is still A LOT of room left in there.

Tommey if you need the harmonic balancer from Australian place let me know I can receive it and ship it to you if the guys dont play ball. Maybe you already covered this but I remember a while back you asked and I didnt click in my mind then.

Also there is a group in the UK that used a cnc or waterject girdle from thick steel plate here is the pic
http://datsun1200.com/uploads/photos/25212.jpg

the guy wants 180 aud posted from the UK using the current uk to aud exchange rate, not bad price really
If you want it I can get you in touch with him

Thanks for the offer Datso!
I already got one but if I need anything else i might ask for your help :-)
Regarding the girdle I might be able to use the stock CD, I will not be able to use a flat one like the stock CA, this is just guessing and I will investigate this later :-)

I know it has little to do with the stroker on this thread but just of interest since Im giving up on my motorbike head as its too difficult on the CA, a friend has fitted the smaller B6 1.6 head onto a datsun/nissan A15 pushrod engine and working at treat after some careful engineering. I know many will say why not just go the CA head but just because I can i wanted to see the difference between a Mazda B6 (1.6) and BP (1.8) head and got the 2 gaskets lining up to find the 1.8 BP one was much longer than the 1.6 then since I had the CA20 block laying around the other day while stuffing around with these steel headgaskets, I couldnt help myself to try it on the CA20 block and by a crazy co-incidence it almost all lines up, water spot on, oil drainage almost a breeze and oil feed to the head is only 5mm away! That means those after a rare four port can fit a Mazda BP head with a little work that equals the 4 port CA head but slightly better port shapes from factory, solid lifters for factory 99 post heads and heaps of aftermarket parts that a CA owner can only dream of not to mention crazy variety of different rocker covers available.

Its crazy but at least theres an option for something totally different yet somewhat cool. Carry on my crazy spiel has finished for now :gapteeth:

The BP engine series are stout. If you're interested in their head design, why not simply turbo a BP motor instead of messing around with swapping heads onto different blocks?

Tommey, with your expertise and resouces do you think you can make a plug cover like this one for the CA?
Only if peeps would be interested as there seems to be pleny not running the cover there when mainly using
external coil pack setups as most do, as the factory c.o.p. are too fragile and old these days.

The Mazda head is a side project will go on another thread to keep this one pure CA.

The cover on the cosworth is a single piece wich covers the whole head.
Are you thinking of making one just for show?
I would consider making one to fit the VW TFSI COP's, those are really cheap and seems to handle big power.

I have made a couple of simple covers in the past, you can take a look in my Photobucket Album if you want.
There's ALOT of pictures to go through but here's the address :

More so to use external coils with plugs like in that cosworth pic but not the whole rocker cover as one piece, just making the COP lid out of billet with plug holes for a similar look and purpose, however requires a decent bit of billet and cnc time to replicate.

excuse the terrible paint drawing but just an idea of the cop cover with plug provisions, hks version shows rounded machined polished covers as the CA rockers have plenty of casting to round the edges off if one wanted to.
Growly CAS BRACKET & BACKING PLATE would fill in the gap of the plug cover at the front in my childish drawing.
Or use a Growly like Backing plate and a custom clear cover like those pesky 4age owners have.

I think I understand.
Would be possible to make something like that for the CA.

Forget the CAS, use crank trigger and a simple sync on the camshaft :-)

I agree will look better also :yesnod

This is what I had in mind which will suit the far right HKS covered alloy smoothed covers with no breathers at the top just breathers from the sides or back of rocker covers.

If there are more suggestions regarding cover design I think it should be posted in a new thread. :)

Needed to adjust the distance between the bearing and the clutch so i had to make a "shim":

Now i just need to drill holes for the lines and it will be ready to go.
so what's the advantage of using this setup? :)

The main advantage for me is simplicity.
This is so easy to get working on my transmission setup, and it is also great because i can get a very driveable clucth wich still holds 1200nm.

the only problem I see with that kind of slave cylinder is bleeding... it requires reverse pressure bleeding IIRC... this requires a special tool
also, if it leaks, it's going to ruin the clutch

No special tools for bleeding, i have one hose in on the side of the box from the master and one out on the top of the box for bleeding.

Hehe, I think I'll stick to Tommey :-)
I have finished drawing of the coil covers if you are still Interested?
PM me!

I am so close to getting the car ready and then I can focus on the engine again.
Posted a picture of some gearbox modification in the CA18DET Facebook group, I was thinking about making a thread on the different methods I use.
