I have a 1990 240sx Fastback with the SOHC KA24. It's taken me a while, but I have decided I wanted to swap the engine. I've been asking my friends and other drifters around my area. Most of them are trying to convince me to get the SR20DET, but I see that every other 240sx has that swap and many other people are currently doing it. I want to do something a little more uncommon.

I've come up with two possibilities, turboed DOHC KA24 or the CA18DET. I like the idea of turboing the KA24DE cause that would just haul ***. But this will cost a lot of money, especially since I have the single cam KA24 and need to swap with the duel cam KA and then turbo it, which is probably going to cost between $2500-$3000 total. With the CA18DET, the engine will coast maybe $1200 and then with the ECU and wiring harness, probably about $1600-1800 total. But since I live in Cali and hearing stories about how much BS you go through with a JDM engine, I don't know if I want that. I like the CA18DET cause it's the original Silvia engine and the engine in the 180sx, which I also want to get the center garnish and rear quarter panel windows from a 180sx.

I would appreciate any feedback about my situation. I am trying to get as much feedback as possible. Thank you.

Man, you've just answered your own question and broke it down in detail as well. Get the CA, you'll thank us later.

the end. why does everyone do a CA swap instead of an SR because its "uncommon"... this engine does have its own merits guys!

and holy crap KA vs. CA vs. SR threads have been beat to death. the answers you seek are out there man, go look around.
