I have a S13 Silvia with a CA18DET in it and I am having a weird issue where I an fire up the car and it will idle well but when I touch the throttle at all the car will drop revs instantly and want to die but if I let off the throttle it will catch and idle again. I can tap the throttle lightly (10%) and have it climb the revs but tap tap tapping it but if I press on the throttle any more than that it will want to die (fall on its face).

Any ideas? I have replaced the fuel filter/ignitor/coil packs and harness/re-did all engine and engine bay grounds/ tps and coolant temp sensors

Have you tested the TPS as per the guidline in the FSM?

I have this same problem. Until its warmed up its not a friendly driver. Based on what I've read so far, it maybe a failing resistor pack, although I'm not 100% sure. I got some things to test out and try first.

THAT sounds like it might be a coolant temp sensor.

have you guys cleaned your MAFS's?

I know my MAF is clean and my temp sensor is functioning properly.

I changed out my Tomei fuel pump for another one and removed the hardwire to the battery for it and it works just fine now. It seems that the fuel pump would work on idle but when any throttle was given it would not give any more fuel and change speeds.
