hey everyone, just got finished swapping in my ca, but when we first went to start it up it wouldn't go past 3k rpms(bad maf), so I got a KA24e maf and wired it up. At first it wouldn't really start at all, it would crank and try to start really roughly and it threw MAF, engine temp sensor and knock sensor codes...the battery died, so I double checked the maf wiring and we jumped it and now it will start up really roughly and idle for a second, but then it just dies...it also dies if I even touch the gas once it starts up...now its just throwing the knock sensor code. So, I'm assuming this is a fuel related problem(I did put about a gallon of premium in it)...I'm going to check the fuel pump next, but wanted to see if you guys had any input?

Did you clear the codes at all? Vac leak?

ya, everything is stock...what I don't get is why it ran in safe mode with the bad maf, which basically means to me that everything was ok except the maf, and now we've fixed that, but it won't run...the ecu went from throwing the 3 codes, to throwing 55(which means everything is good), and now just code 34(knock sensor). I'll clear them today...i guess I don't know where to go from here. Maybe the ecu got fried?

well, check the knock sensor.

other than that.. leave the ECU unplugged overnight to clear all memory (including its learned fuel compensation)

it was the maf...I used a KAe maf in a CA housing to get it running, but I had to return it to the guy I borrowed it from. I can't seem to get it running with a KAe maf in a KAe housing(larger diameter) and the CA expert here says the housing size is the problem, but my CA housing is an early model and the KAe maf won't fit in it...

Can anyone confirm this or is every KA maf I try just bad...lol

I'm using straight KA24E MAF w/o modifications no problem

now, if you've been disassembling and reassembling MAFS there's no telling what'll go wrong..

of course I assume by CA MAF you mean one from a CA18DET, because using something else isn't going to work. swapping housings is a no-no regardless..
