I am about to do a swap on my 72 510 datsun 4 door. the CA looks like a great motor, turbo, high revs, cheaper than sr20 with better design. but I would like to have my car running by end of summer. the KA is cheaper, easier to install (no turbo-intercooler). what do you think?

You've answered your own question! You seem to have a KA on-hand or close by, so go with that due to your time constraint.

yeah why not save yourself some trouble and make it wayyyyy easier on yourself and go with the L18......they are great motors....all L series engines are amazing.....im with TMS........yeah you know the ca would be sweet but you cant go wrong with an N/A L- series screaming through the gears......just to let you know i have a 78 280z with an L28 in it and i love the motor and i wouldnt trade it for any other motor....except maybe a Neo rb25de with itbs......but thats a whole different story...

I lo0ve the cars sitting around that shop. S30 with the OS head, early 70s Skyline, Porsche 930, cappucino, etc. That one guy in the gray jumpsuit is Jap as hell.

update.

I got the new L16 in. it has an electronic distributor, I got that all wired in. I am having trouble with the transmission mount. the previous transmission was a 5 speed from a Z or something so the mount was in a different place. I am working or something temp so I can take it in to have one made. other than that I need fluids, clutch slave bolted on and she will be ready to start.

Yea, let's see some pics!

I totally support a built n/a sohc KA, preferably with dual DCOE webbers . As someone who's swapped a CA into a MGB and who loves the CA I'm telling you, staying n/a will make your life SO much easier.

I got it all done and went to start it but it won't start. I have spark that is timed properly, fuel, I think I have compression(I don't have a Gage). I think the gas is just old. I will try again w/ some fresh gas, And I will post photos of my POS and my POS garage.

and TWICE as boring - lol. Once u taste boost, can u really accept less ? I can't.I guess since I've done a few turbo fuel injected swaps into old school rides, the wiring & fuel system ain't no big deal

CA18 seems like it belongs in a 510.Lots of nice samples here; http://www.datsun1200.com/modules/news/

I drool over the smoothness, ruggedness, tq and potential of the vg30Et in a street 510 tho. Awesome motors
