I was wondering if anyone had swapped a CA18DET into one of the older, single cam models. Specifically one like this:

Is this a significant increase in man hours (read: more than 10 hours) over a CA-equipped Pulsar?

yes, it is very possible as I have one of those pulsars and it is powered by a ca18det.http://www.freewebs.com/pulsargtr/

But since you have the E16I, it will be wise to sell it and get a Ca16de or ca18de pulsar nx.se as it will be a much easier swap.

If you still want to keep your E16I pulsar, you need to replace the both axles, as the Ca has a hanging bearing, radiator, couple engine mounts, you need to get a ca16de/ca18de engine harness, maf (since yours have the maf build as part of the intake). fuel pump, etc... see where I am comming from, it will be cheaper to sell yours and get a ca16de/ca18de pulsar and do the conversion, also you need to upgrade your brakes otherwise the car will never stop with those none vented small disk brakes and calipers on the E16I pulsar.

i never read pulsar gtr's post but i can tell you that he's 110% correct about everything he says when it comes to pulsar's and ca18det's.

like i said, since I never read his post, here's my 2 cents:

possible, but easier with a pulsar that's already CA powered...

Wow, that's exactly the info I was looking for. I don't own the car; its just local and a hundred bucks for a running pulsar seemed like a decent project car to do after I get my current CA into my S13 and running.

From the list of changes I'd have to make I doubt I'd want to pursue the car past $200 though. Thanks pulsar.

i am in the middle of swapping a ca18det into my 88 pulsar se, i was wondering if anyone on here has any info on wiring or what kind of ecu/maf to use, if you cant use the stock stuff. btw i got the injector resistor pack off a 87 pulsar se and was wondering which wire on the injector plug of the 2 i would splice that in at or if there is a way to tell just by looking.

is the pulsar with the Ga16i the one that can do an easy swap to CA or no?

No. The GA16i could be swapped with a GA16DE or a GA16DET (turbo bolt on upgrade), but again, if you want to go the CA route, it's best to stick with a pulsar that came stock with a CA16DE or CA18DE engine. Rule of thumb when it comes to Nissans (from what Ive learned). If youre going to swap the engine and you want to have an easy time doing it, swap it with something that has the same engine series as the stock car.. Example:1988 Nissan Pulsar NX SE - Stock CA18DE - Upgrade CA18DET1987 Nissan Pulsar NX XE - Stock E16i - Upgrade E15t1988 Nissan Pulsar NX XE - Stock GA16i - Upgrade GA16DE/T

Sure, you CAN go with different engine series but if you dont have the knowledge, the money (and money plays a big factor in this all), or the tools for fabricating, I would say stick with the series engine your car came with. If you have any questions, e-mail me @ [email protected]

Also, when you get that CA18DET in that pulsar of yours I wanna see it =). North Dakota is only about 1 hour away from where I live (depending on where in ND you live of course)
